Fall airfares

While most airlines are still offering only some deals for summer travel to Europe right now, when might we expect to see them address fall travel?

Perhaps they are waiting to see what happens with oil prices. Most airlines are increasing their fuel surcharges and expect the costs to continue to rise.

But for the reality of higher fuel costs, would there come a time when one might expect fall airfares to Europe to drop?

AA has a late fall (Nov 1 and on) sale to Shannon and Dublin, Ireland.

~$325 (all in) R/T from east coast, ~$25 more from Chicago and ~$50 more from Los Angeles.

These fares are good ONLY on routes AA competes with AerLingus, so LAX, ORD, JFK and BOS to Ireland.

Usually the fares will drop 30-60 days prior to the date. However, some popular flights get full sooner and the price never drops. I've found it helps to be a little flexable with dates and airline/flight options.

I'm trying to fly into Italy 9/21 and return 10/7. Fares were cheaper a month ago, then jumped, and I am hoping they will go down in June or July. I will continue to check every day though- you never know. I have had some luck in the past when checking on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings.

Good luck!

A few years back I found it cheaper to buy a ticket to London and then a separate ticket from London to Rome. We saved about $200 per ticket. You may want to try that too.
