EZ-PASS in France

HI; Does anyone know if there are ez-pass toll gates on the motorways in France? If so, is there a way to purchase on the internet. Thanks Iris

Yes, it's called "Télépéage".

The site is only in French, but does allow you to choose other countries for your address, so you may be able to get one on-line.

Sorry, I clicked too fast. Here's the link:

I just bought one online, and it does work for the US.

The only problem I had was that we live on a numbered street, and it wouldn't accept it as a valid street, so I had to spell it out.

(I couldn't put 64th Street, for example- I had to spell out Sixty-fourth Street, or it wouldn't take it.)

The Liber-T option isn't bad for someone who travels fairly often to France. It's €1.50 a month only for the months that you actually use it, with a one-time start-up fee of €10.

Then they just charge your tolls automatically to your credit card.

Right now there's a promotion with your first 6 months of fees free, too, which isn't bad.

THANKS Louie and Marcy; We have two long travel/driving days, one from Lyon to Prades. The other from Bordeaux to Nantes and we wil be using the motorways. This is a great help. The tips on spelling out the 'street number' and the 'web site' is appreciated. Thanks again Iris

Hi JoyC; Viewing the help from Louie and Marcy for an ez-pass. If you keypunch 'telepeage-pour' into yahoo the web site will appear and you can click 'translate into english'. So now I can attempt to get my pass. Probably will need help. ENJOY Iris

Thank you Iris for the tip...but I do speak French and can understand the website. I just didn't realize that US residents can make use of the telepeage.Wish I knew about this as I drove a lot this summer in France.

Hope your trip goes well.

Hello!

Iris or marcy, have you successfully used your télépéage in France recently?

I am trying to subscribe but would only take 3 numbers for the "Street" and we have 5 numbers. I don't know how they can mail the badge if the street number is lacking. Any suggestions? (They wouldn't take the number even if I spell it out....the box is limited to 3 digits.)

Thank you.

Hi Joy; Never was able to get the telepeage. I can tell you, it was easy using a credit card. Visa was always accepted. American Express only once. The only tricky part was making sure there was an attendant in the toll booth. Dick

Thanks Dick.....I'll try another company, sanef, and see if I can get through.

Last summer, the toll from Toulon to Salon de Provence was so long, it took us an hour to get through..... that's why the télépéage seems to be very attractive to us.

How was your trip to Portugal? We are headed that way in a few weeks.

Hi Joy; We love Portugal. Our second visit and this time with our daughter. It was her 'spring' vacation. Only spent four days there and four days in Spain. So we started in Evora for two days. Stayed in a Convent using 'Starwood' points. Great place. Visited Estremoz while there. Visited Monsaraz on the way to Seville for three days. Did a ten hour tour of the white towns from Seville. Spent one day in Caceres, a lovely medieval town. On the way to Obidos for two nights, we vsited Marvao and Tomar. In Obidos, we stayed in a Marriott and had an ocean front room using 'Marriott points. My son-in-law used points for the flight tickets and we did four nights for hotels, so we made good use of 'points'. Have a great trip. Dick
