Extremely last minute trip...need itinerary assistance please

Over the weekend I got an incredible deal to Frankfurt and booked it; we are leaving this weekend! We are renting a car and hope to see as much of Germany, Austria and Hungary as possible in 9 days. I have been several times, but my husband has only been to Germany and my daughter has never been.
This is what I have planned so far.
3/28- Arrive in Frankfurt; stay in Rhineland-Palatinate area
3/29 - Day trip to Metz, France (back to Rhineland-Palatinate)
3/30 - Munich
3/31 - Leave Munich late afternoon and head to Salzburg
4/01 - Head to Budapest after lunch
4/5- Nuremberg
4/6 - Frankfurt
4/7 -depart

Do you think this is doable or is it too aggressive? Are there any locations (other Budapest) I should skip? I have accomodations for the 1st & 2nd night, Budapest and our last night in Frankfurt. The rest I was hoping to leave open to provide additonal flexibility. Is this too risky?
Thanks for your input!!

g35 - I'm a bit confused. first of all, you're flying into Frankfurt, heading for the Pfalz, but not staying there and going to Metz instead! all in one day! Have you ever been to the Pfalz? there are many lovely places to see - Trier, Speyer, the Rhein itself, Trifels, quite enough to fill a day.

having not seen the Pfalz, you're off to Munich [a place where many people could spend a week] for half a day and a night if you're lucky], ditto Salzburg, ditto Budapest, not seeing any of them. Frankly, why go to any of these places, just to leave them? you could do a lovely trip from Frankfurt, via the Pfalz to Munich, base there for a few days, then back to Frankfurt via Nuremberg. Budapest is miles and miles away - leave it for another time.

sorry to be so harsh, but you did ask!

I agree with annig, Germany is a spreadout country and staying a night in each town sounds too much especially for your daughter who's never been there. I'd agree with staying a couple days in Munich and seeing the area around.

I agree to dump Budapest this time, and I'd also leave out France. Spend your time in the Rhein area, it is beautiful. Then why not do Munich, Nuremberg/Bamberg then back to Frankfurt?

annhig...
Yes, I have been to Pfalz and it is beautiful. I have family in both Frankfurt area and Budapest so thus the reason for flying into Frankfurt and driving to Budapest. Since my daughter has never been to Europe, I was trying to develop an itinerary which would allow for a more than a straight drive from Frankfurt to Budapest and back.

And you are correct, I did ask for opinions, not sarcasam.

Sorry, g35girl, but your itinerary is not doable IMO.

Pls refer to a mapping website like mappy.com or google.com where you will see that it is over 6 hrs from Salzburg to Budapest. It's another 7 to 8 hrs from Budapest to Nuremburg. And that's only if you don't stop to see anything along the way!

You've received some good advice from annhig and others. You should listen.

I llove road trips. We have done MANY road trips i n europe. What you have though is the equivalent of the kids who go on spring break from NYC and drive straight through to FL, spend 2 days and drive right back (switching driver non the road).

You have NO time to actually see anything. You will be driving the whole time. In 9 days stick to one country - no more than 2 hotels - and actually see something.

Where do you allow time to get from one place to another?

You have
3/29 - Day trip to Metz, France (back to Rhineland-Palatinate)
3/30 - Munich
3/31 - Leave Munich late afternoon and head to Salzburg
4/01 - Head to Budapest after lunch

Where is the time to drive to Munich?
What time do you have to see Salzburg - the 2 hours from 10am to noon.
If you leave Salzburg at 2 in the afternoon you'll be arriving in Budapest after 8 pm - and have to start looking for you hotel.

You really need to sit down with a map and check viamichelin.com to see how long these drives will actually take - versus time sightseeing.

This has to be a joke. These people will spend their entire time in a car. Do not take this one seriously. We have done the same thing to Germany many times. This itinerary is not doable. Good luck, but I think we have a joke here.

i'm not aware of being sarcastic, g35, and if you perceived me being so, I'm sorry. but i have found by bitter experience [usually that of the enquirer!] that unless one is blunt, the enquirer usually takes no notice.

As you say that you know that the Pfalz is beautiful, why not let your daughter see it?
