Extra Day - Granada or Sevilla
 

Hi everyone,

My husband and I have just about finished planning our 9 day trip to Andalucia April 1-10. We are currently booked for two nights in Granada and 2 nights in Sevilla. We are modifying our itinerary a bit, so now we have an extra night. Should we spend that in Granada or Sevilla? This a win-win situation either way, but we just wanted to see what other travelers think. About us: we love to eat/drink Spanish food and wine, he loves outdoors and nature (plus for Granada), I love European cities and stopping for coffee or tapas every 5 minutes (plus for both?), we both love to socialize and mingle with others. We have our tickets to see the Alhambra already, so I don' t think we'd spend another day there. This is our first trip to Andalucia, but we've been to (and LOVED) Spain several times before.

Does anyone have strong feelings either way? We just can't make up our minds and need some inspiration. Thanks!

We spent 3 nights in Sevilla and 2 in Granada and thought that was great. We liked both cities very much but there did seem to be more of a variety of things for us to see in Sevilla - we loved the Alcazar, the Cathedral, walking around the small streets, and heading across the river to Triana. So I'd vote for the extra night in Sevilla!

Definately Sevilla. My usual recommendation for Sevilla is 4 nights as this allows for a daytrip to Cordoba.
If you've been to Spain several times before and loved it but never visited Andalucia - you are in for a huge treat! Have a great trip.

Apart from the more touristy Santa Cruz area, I recommend the close by and more local feel Arenal area. Some fabulous places here. For example Enrique Becerra in C/ Gamazo, 2 and one of my absolute favourites in Sevilla, Bodegas Diaz Salazar in C/García de Vinuesa, 20. A branch of the very popular Mesón Serranito is in C/ Antonia Diaz, 11.

You should also go to the San Lorenzo district, north of Santa Cruz and Arenal. Here you'll find extremely popular Eslava: http://azahar-sevilla.com/sevilletapas/category/eslava/

If you want to see first class flamenco, go to intimate Casa de la Memória in the Santa Cruz district. Popular with tourists, but it's definitely the real deal. Pastora Galván from Sevilla was recently voted best female flamenco dancer for 2010 by Spanish critics. She dances here both on the 1st, 5th and 9th of April. A great chance to experience one of the finest flamenco artists on the current scene.

As you say, you win either way, but I'll join the others in saying Sevilla makes better sense, particularly if you make time for Cordoba. Or spend the night in Cordoba!
