Extending flight on Turkish Airlines

Hi,

I booked a flight from Orbitz for Turkish airlines for JFK to Munich and Zurich to JFK. I would like to change my departure city(Zuric) and extend my return flight. The attendant at the counter stated nothing can be done because there are no seats in my class available from JFK to Munich that day at that time. He then stated when I land in Munich to try and extend in Munich. Isn't this a big risk?

Sorry first time booking a flight internationally.

Thanks

Another option is to get a refund from Orbitz and lose $600, and then repurchase another flight.

Why would you lose $600?

If you cancel booking within 24hrs of purchase, you are supposed to get all the money back. http://www.dot.gov/affairs/2012/dot0812.html

@sparkchaser: Turkish airline rules for refunds.

@greg: Unfortunately I bought these tickets in the end of June.

Orbitz sells non-refundable tickets. That's why they are so cheap.
