Extended escorted tours
Has anyone taken a 26 day tour with Globus thru Great Britain & Ireland? Do you recommend them or another agency? Do you stay anywhere long enough to get laundry done at any of the hotels or in town?
How firm is the 60" rule for luggage-mine is 62" Any help will be appreciated. |

Has a list of how many nights you spend in each place - whether you have time to do laundry is another matter - maybe if you don't go on a day's outing, you will have time. Our Globus tour in Ireland, every minute of the day was full. |
I think they will saw 2 inches off the end of your luggage. Then turn it around and saw 2 inches off the other end, as punitive damages.
No, wait... that's how I would do it if I ran the company... Shame on me. |
My husband and I did that Globus tour in 2001, but it was 28 days at that time. I highly recommend it as an overview type of trip. It let us see a bit of everything and know what we would like to explore more thoroughly, which wasn't always the same thing! For instance, I loved the Scottish highlands, but he didn't. Our guide and the bus driver were just great.
I did laundry at a laundromat close by the hotel and got my hair done within walking distance in Plymouth. I remember getting my hair done again in Dublin where the hair dresser had a good friend who worked at and whose apartment was in viewing distance of the WTC towers but who was home sick on 9/11. (This was in September; we were in London on 9/11.) I don't remember doing laundry anywhere else, but I had borrowed from my daughter a little square rack with clothes pins that hung over the shower rod and did socks and undies in our room a few times. I took enough outer wear clothing that I didn't need to do much laundry. My husband and I had one good sized piece of luggage each, and we each carried the Globus bag they sent us. Our luggage would have been less than 60" and weighed much less than the maximum allowed. I think now the airlines are pretty strict about size. I know they are death on carry-on limits. |
I was impressed that somebody had managed to find a 60 or 62" suitcase!!
But Globus's luggage allowance posted as 30x21x11". How did the 60" rule came up? By adding 30+21+11=62? Can somebody explain please? What am I missing here? Or is it all a joke and I'm too busy with the year-end accounting to get it? I'd worry more about weight allowance as the airlines are switching to the 50 lbs rule. |
I blame the bifocals. After reading the size allowance for the 10th time-62 inches is correct-I can add my suitcase dimensions but can't read the booklet.
We will probably do some traveling on our own after the long tour & were hoping for short term laundry service thru the hotels or nearby-don't think some cottons will dry overnight.I don't think the wight allowance will bother us too much but then we haven't started packing yet. |
Don't blame your glasses. They add that touch of intelligency to your look. At least this is how I explain why I don't want contacts ;)
|
I wear contacts some of the time also-just need the bifocals when I want to read-unless I have my glasses on without the contacts & then I can read better without the glasses!:>)
