Expo 2000 or Berlin?
We have four days to see something new between stops at relatives in Germany. Close enough to comfortably do are either the Expo 2000 in Hanover (I believe this is the "world's fair", which is not held too often) or Berlin, which we have never seen. We are a fairly travel adventuresome middle aged couple (not into nightclubs or dancing and drinking). Any feedback?

You can stay in Berlin and commute. Only 90 minutes away by train. Just got back from Berlin and environs and there is 3 days worth for sure--I'd spend one long day at the fair--enough for me. But I'm more interested cities and the real culture of the country.

My biased opinion: Berlin, hands down. To me, Expo 2000 sounds expensive and crowded, and there is plenty to see in Berlin. Even in ten days I didn't see it all.

Do the commute. The Fair sounds fun (I have a friend in Hannover who told me about it) but don't miss Berlin. If you are going again soon, then go to the fair & pop down to Hamelin (Pied Piper fame) & see Berlin next trip.

My German relatives said skip Expo and do Berlin. Expo is expensive 70DM entrance fee and individual pavillions also have an entrance fee. It has been poorly advertised and not well attended
Berlin is teeming with activity and places to see and things to do
Take Bus 100, starts at Zoo train station and runs throughout the city, get on and off as much as you like, runs about every 10 minutes during the day.
You can also visit Potsdam from Berlin or the Spreewald.
