I am trilled with the advice so kindly offered. I spend at least six months researching before a trip and these suggestions give me much to explore. Perhaps we may spend more than a week in Normandy area.

Yes, the basement experience in Bastogne is amazing. Catania's WWII museum also starts in a "bomb shelter".

To experience a beautiful chateau (de Sully) about 3 miles north of Bayeux en route to the D-day sites, I highly recommend it (for dinner also) Handsome grounds, large rooms.Wonderful breakfasts in the salon.
