A lot of people don't care about museums, though. If you just enjoyed the cemetery, walking around and seeing buildings, the parks, churches, and cafes, it would be fine.

thanks, Christina, that's half a day; we'll spend the rest in the pub:

Thought I would come back here to let you know what we actually did the day we decided to explore Montparnasse.

We took the bus to the Gare Montparnasse terminus and went into the station. I knew that the Jean Moulin/Leclerc museums were literally on top of the station in the Parc Atlantique, so we went up a couple of levels to see if we could find our way. After wandering around a little, finally I asked someone who directed us to the stairs next to Platform 1. The museums are very interesting, especially the one dedicated to Leclerc.

We then walked over to the rue Montparnasse to find a crêperie for lunch. The most recommended one (Josselin) was full with a line of people waiting, so we continued down the street to the Crêperie Plougastel where we had the 9E50 menu that included a galette, a dessert crêpe, and either wine or cider. The food, atmosphere and service were great and there were mostly locals there.

From there we went to the cemetery and wandered around for awhile looking at the graves of Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Zadkine and others. Then we set out to find the Notre Dame du Travail church that Michael mentioned. What an interesting site. Thank you Michael. I think that was the highlight of our day. It is certainly unusual and beautiful.

We will definitely have to return to Montparnasse as there is still so much to see, but the day was exceptionally hot and we could not continue to roam around as much as we would have liked.

Thank you all again so much for your responses.
