Exploring Kerry

We are 2 months away now from our first trip to Ireland! So exciting! If we wanted to explore Kerry for 3 days, mainly Dingle and Ring of Kerry along with hopefully Kilarny National Park, where shouel we stay? Any suggestions? If we stay in Dingle, will driving to those other places be too far? Is there a more central location? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

Although Killarney isn't my favorite town, at that time of year it would be a good choice and there would be plenty open in the evening which might be important. You can get to Dingle pretty quickly from there. You could stay in Dingle but it adds to the driving time of the Ring of Kerry.

If you are looking for very quiet evenings, you could consider Killorglin or one of the other small towns nearby.

I've never stayed, but now about Tralee? Or would that be too far for Killarney? One year I stayed in Glenbeigh at Towers Hotel. Really small village, on the ROK, this was 1996, not sure what shape the hotel is in now. They had a really great Pub and a very good restaurant. My sister and I went over one day to Dingle from there and another day to Killarney. Just a couple of thoughts. Joan

Three days in Kerry? And you'll be there in January (limited daylight).

My $.02 worth is to spend your time in Kenmare. It's a wonderful little town perhaps 45 minutes southeast of Killarney. You can access the Ring, Killarney National Park, AND (other advantage over Killarney, aside from small village charm) the Beara Peninsula.

I'd save Dingle for when you have more time in Kerry; you're going to be spread too thin to really get the feel of the places you're considering.

According to my calculations you'll be there in January. Weather can be rather cold. There is not much sense in planning ahead where to stay and what to do. Most B&Bs are going to be empty so you will be able to plan your days according to the situation. If you have a rented car, Just be a flaxible. Stay wherever you feel comfortable. You could stay in 3 different places. Drive around, find a B&B to your liking and stay overnight.
