Experiencing Champagne
Has anyone got any advice on where to stay and what to visit in the Champagne region?
|
The capital of Champagne is Reims, whose main attraction is the cathedral. You should also visit Champagne Caves, there are dozens of wineries in Reims, Epernay and smaller towns who offer such tours which end with tastings. Some are very touristy (with train rides through the caves), others are more personal. Here on this forum, you will find many threads on this topic.
Although technically not in Champagne, Laon is not far from Reims and worth a visit. There are also some nice routes through the countryside. Watch for the green-lined roads on www.viamichelin.com (zoom in). Where to stay - it depends on whether you have a car or not (if not: Reims), on your budget, on your tastes - there are a zillion options, please specify. |
Many thanks traveller! I'm a new subscriber to this site, and not sure how to find the "threads" you mentioned; what do I do to access these? I am just beginning to explore the topic of Champagne - we are visiting there in October, and of course I am beginning to realize it is a rather large topic, not to mention area! How long would you say one would need to get a "taste"of it, so to speak?

Find the box above marked "Search this Forum" and enter key words like "Champagne" or "Reims" and the threads will apper to your left.
If you give a little more information, i.e. length of stay, likes/dislikes/intersts, means of transportation, you will get more suggestions and better tailored to your needs. Happy travelling and Welcome! |

TO access former thread written on any topic, go to the particular forum, in this case "Europe," and put in a good search word or two in the search box. It is sort of like using Google. What you put in the search box basically determines what threads turn up on the left side of your screen. I don't know about the Champagne region, but I know about Fodor's. |
Thankyou to all who responded - I'm just blown away at how helpful everyone is! you're all very kind, and, it seems, clever and well-informed to boot! Good on ya!
