Expeditious route from Gare de Lyon to Hotel Bonaparte

After reading many recommendations regarding hotels, I picked a few to make inquiries with. Many of those had no room on my chosen nights. I ended up with Hotel Bonaparte, in Saint Germaine mostly due to Ira's recommendation.

Now my question is: we will arrive in Paris on the TGV at Gare de Lyon on a Sunday about 4:30 PM (16:30). What are some modes of transportation we might take? I am assuming a taxi would be the most expensive, and as it is at the end of our 24 day journey, our funds will be running low. I think we will have a 24" and a 22" +
Rick Steeves type backpack with us for our luggage.

Your suggestions, please.
Jean

I'm sure you can take the Metro, but a taxi couldn't be much more than10-15E.

Of course you can get anywhere in Paris by metro, that's a given. Especially if you are starting at a train station, all of which have metro connections. The issue is do you want to do that with luggage and do you want to walk the several blocks from the metro stop to your hotel. That hotel isn't too far from St Germain des Pres metro stop, though, only 1 block or so, so it's the metro stairs and getting on/off the trains, etc. that is your issue. I'd probably use metro given it would be Sunday afternoon and you don't have too much luggage. You will have to transfer at Chatelet-les Halles, however, which will involve some walking around.

Hi P,

www.ratp.fr suggests either the no. 87 bus (straight shot to the Pl St Sulpice) or the Metro Line 1 to Chatelet, transfer to Line 4 for St. Sulpice (Least walking).

Enjoy your visit.

I would take the bus. I've done the reverse trip (rue Bonaparte to Gare de Lyon) by metro and it's a pain. Chatelet is a huge station with very long tunnels.

Last time at Gare de Lyon I waited on line for 30 minutes for a taxi.

Yes, Bus 87. We did the reverse from the St. Germain stop to Gare de Lyoh with 20" convertible backpacks and totes (so "light" luggage). I do think it was easier than the metro would have been. Using the ratp site which Ira linked is always a good bet when you plug in your specific dates & times.

I took a taxi from Gare de Lyon to S. Sulpice church two weeks ago. It was 11EU with 2 luggage. Two tickets out of carnet will be 2.50EU. I would recommend a bus if not taxi. Chatelet-les Halles is a huge complex where the lost souls of travelers just arriving from CDG with luggage wonder around aimlessly trying find their way to their accommodations.
