And since buying Euro currency in the US is far more costly than using an ATM or credit card in Europe, there is likely no savings at all. Pay 8 percent to buy cash now, or 3 percent (or less with some credit cards) when you use plastic in two months -- your friend is likely to come out ahead by waiting.
