Exchange Rates: Revised!
 

All the prices For France in the literature and in Fodors is listed in Francs. I've been trying to find out the exchange rate and have difficulty because I can only find out the rate for the euro. Can someone tell me what the conversion of Francs to Euro is and then Euros to US dollars????Thanks

You're not looking in the right place, at least not on this website. Click on "Resource Center" on Fodor's home page, then click "Money" and then "Universal Currency Converter," where you'll find francs as one of the currencies you can get the conversion rates for. When I just check, it was 6.29699 francs per US dollar.

Ooops, sorry, just reread your question, so forget the above posting. Instead, if you click on the Universal Currency Converter, as mentioned above, you'll find the Euro as one of the conversion options, and you'll be able to do you calculations there.

When I was there a few weeks ago 610 francs was $100. So you can round off from there.

Paul, <BR>Why complicate things by introducing the Euro into your calculations when it won't be in general circulation until the year 2002? Go to www.oanda.com where you can print out a "cheat sheet" that converts dollars to francs and vice versa, i.e.: $100 dollars = X francs; <BR>Y francs = $xx dollars.

Why mess with 3-step conversion, especially when the Euro has been flirting with parity with the dollar? As of Friday a Euro = $1.04 (or .96 Euros to the dollar). But again, you won't be able to use that information in any tangible way for a while. It's just a nice comparison, very helpful when prices in Europe are quoted in home currency and Euro. Just figure the Euro is close to, but more than, a dollar.

Paul still needs to know Euros to franc conversersion: as of yesterday it's 6.56 francs to the Euro, .15 Euros per franc.

The rate for French francs to euros was fixed --permanently-- at the beginning of this year at 6.55957. <BR> <BR>While there are no euro coins or bills in circulation, and won't be for about 2 years, you will see prices in many places posted in both euros and local currency.
