Excellent Summer Read: Mediterranean Summer

I just finished this memoir by chef David Shalleck, Foreward by Mario Batali and am recommending it to everyone who likes to travel and/or eat! The book chronicles his job as a budding chef working on a 126 ft. yacht one summer in France and Italy; boat is owned by super wealthy Italians who expect the very best in food and presentation, sometimes for as many as 100 guests, coming out of a small galley. It discusses the dynamics among the 7 crew members as well as with il Dottore and la Signora. It is well written and a joy to read.

Check it out on Amazon or its own site: www.mediterraneansummer.com

There is already a long thread about this book over in the Lounge (where most threads about books/food are posted)

Sometimes the problem with long book threads is that you have to plow through quite a few of them, some you're not interested in, other's you've read and I don't always go back to them.

Thanks for posting about this one.

Oh - the link isn't one of those looooong "What are you reading this summer?" threads -- it is mostly about this book/author

Thanks grandmere. I am headed to the beach for a week and sounds like just the thing.

I saw the thread earlier this summer and bought the book. It was ok. Enjoyed reading about their travels but thought the author was rather full of himself. Just my opinion.

Looks great - right up my alley! Thanks Grandmere. I'd not seen the other thread, either.
