EWR to NAP
Hi All,
Do you think this is feasible? I am trying to redeem FF miles out of Newark going into Naples next July. The flight they have goes from EWR to CDG with a 45 minute time between the next flight from CDG to NAP. Do you think this connection time is too short or has anyone does this before. The agent keeps saying this is within legal connection times but I'm a bit leary.
Thanks.

Thanks Ira,
yes this is AF. I guess my alternative is to find a non-stop from JFK to NAP but it's a pain for us to go to JFK. I'll have to see if I try this connection, how often the CDG-NAP flight runs.
Thanks.

I assume your miles are on a Skyteam airline. There are lots of combination that can get you from EWR to NAP with decent combination. You can fly CO or AF to CDG and connect, and you can fly CO or AZ to MXP and connect. Even CO to FCO and a short hop to NAP is possible.
Call your airline's FF desk and have them search for all those combinations.

Thanks so much. I will call them and try to figure this out. I checked next weeks schedule and they do have another flight in the afternoon from CDG to NAP, but then again I don't know next year's schedule.
Thanks.
Thanks.

NAP isn't easy to get to from EWR, I see only one possible AF connection a day. You also have a chance on Alitialia theu Rome or Milan. Continental also goes thru Rome.
I don't like the looks of a 50 minute connection thru CDG. This is listed on the airline reservations as a "tight" connection.
There is only 1 flight a day to NAp from CDG on AF.
Consider a night in Paris?

I just got off the phone with them. You are right, only 1 flight per day. No other flight patterns are coming up with my reward tix.
My husband is telling me to just change it so we stay in Paris one night but I don't want to have 1 less day in AC. So my choices are:
1. Take the chance....apparently that flight gets in early usually due to tail winds and gamble this connection and then in case we do miss it, hopefully get on the next flight the following day or...
2. just stay the night in Paris.
Which would you choose.

Have you looked into the ideas richard and I are giving you? That is to try different flights or go through Milan or Rome?
Or why not fly to Rome and train down to Naples? You'll get to Naples for sure that day.
And 45 minute to go transit through CDG is virtually impossible.

I tried allthe possibilities you are suggesting, however they can't get me on the 50K FF flight. I'll try again in another hour and see if anything changes. I didn't check into Milan so I'll try that.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Is there some reason you must go through CVG? Considering what a madhouse it is why not go through Frankfurt - we have always found it efficient and use it whenever we're flying to an Italian city without direct flights to the US.

Thanks. I called CO back and no other connection is working. They assured me that usually this flight gets in early due to tail winds and with a 50 minute connection within the international AF terminal, it's possible. I exhausted all possibilities from all airports and I even tried to save Amalfi Coast for another trip but they can't get me in on the 50K FF ticket for the date I need in July 2nd. So I guess, I'll have to take the chance and hope it works.
The agent also said there are other options with connections from CDG to NAP via Milan just in case or I can just take the next flight the following day.
Thanks much.

If these are your only choices - definitely 2.

This is waht you should do. Hold the FF award for 10 days on the phone. Next week, call again to check all the possible connections and see if there are other flights open up. If not, go ahead and issue the FF award.
Yes, even if you miss your connection, you can still get to Naples that evening. Either by flying through Milan, or fly to Rome and then train there. Read up about the Leonardo Express train at FCO, and the Eurostar Alta Velocita from Rome to Naples, just in case you need to use them.
Trains are relatively cheap in Italy. No reason to wait a day in Paris.
