Everyone List Your Favorite Paris Hotel.....
 

For those of us in the beginning stages of planning a Paris trip, it would be fun to hear everyone's fav place to stay. Please list what makes it special for you (room size, location, etc), which arrondisement it is in, the price range, and any other tidbits you think are interesting. I know, I know, choosing a hotel shouldn't be such a big deal, but for some of us, where we "live" while traveling is an important part of the trip.

Patti: I have been to Paris/France a dozen times.
Now I stay at Hotel IBIS at #2 Rue Cambronne. It is
newly renovated in a nice area about 15 minute
walk from Eiffel Tower. Cost is about $85 per nite
for two. Near restaurants, shoppes, etc.

I don't have the book in front of me, but we went to Paris on our honeymoon and loved our little cozy place. It's on the left bank and is called La Relais San Germain. It only has a small number of rooms that are very nicely decorated. You are in a great location too. The hotel staff is very attentive with the feel of a 5 star hotel. The rooms have been recenly renovated but ours had the original exposed beems in the ceilings, fabric wall paper and just a nice warm feel to the room. I think it costs us about $200/night depending on your time of travel. We stayed the 1st of October.

I was in Paris 3 weeks ago & stayed at the Hotel Champs du Mars. Its in the 7th, near the Eiffel Tower and in the Rue Cler neighborhood (good pedestrian street with markets). It was only 390F which came to about $65 a night! It's small but very cute - the rooms are decorated like a Provencal bed & breakfast. What I liked best about the Rue Cler neighborhood is that you feel like you are "living" in Paris because you're not in the middle of a touristy area. This hotel is in Rick Steves France travel book and also a book on hotel with charm. Enjoy Paris!

We also like the 7th district near the Eiffel Tower. Our hotel is Hotel Le Pavillon, 54 Rue Saint-Dominique 75007 Paris, tele 45514287, fax 45513279. The cost 1 year ago was about $90.00. This is an old convent with about 20 rooms. It is on a street with lots of stores but the hotel is set back. The rooms are tiny but clean. I think they speak some English. There are several good, moderatley prices restaurants in walking distance of the hotel. This is a neighborhood. At night you walk out the hotel and see the Eiffel Tower lit up--it is beautiful.

Grand Hotel Leveque, 29 Rue Cler, 7th District. On a beautiful market street about 6 blocks from the Eiffel Tower. Recommended by National Geo Traveler and Rick Steves. Cost about $95 for a double ensuite in 1995. Email me for address if you're interested.

Hotel du Jeu de Paume on the Ile St-Louis.It is located on the former site of Louis XIV's tennis court and is in the quiet residential neighborhood beside of the Ile de Cite just around the corner from Notre Dame.

It is on a narrow street full of shops and stores where the locals shop. Wonderful Parisian atmosphere ideally located between the right and left banks in the middle of the Seine. Wonderful atmosphere and service. Rooms range 600F to 1300F.

Paris the end of March 1998, looking for hotels in the fifth or sixth district in the $100 dollar range would appreciate any info on this matter.

i sent a e mail to hotel " JEU DE PAUME " a few weeks back for 5 nights in early december and i was quoted a rate for one person/singel room of 1230 ff per night...
where did you receive the quote starting at 600 ff per night ????

We stayed at Hotel du Louvre and were very pleased - about $200 per night. Fantastic location right by the Louvre and within walking distance of everything you might want to see on the Right Bank.

Bobby: That was the range that was quoted to me last spring. As with most hotels, the price they quote you will depend on the time of the year and what they have available. They may already have reservations for the least expensive rooms for the time period you are interested in. I ended up paying 1350FF/night for a fairly large room and a large marble bath (large by European standards) with a view on the garden. December may also be a busy time for them and their rates may go up then.

We've visited Paris twice, in 1992 and 1997. First time, we stayed in a moderately priced hotel on Rue St. Roch, just off the Rue de Rivoli (1st arrond.?? - not sure) called the Montana-Tuileries. It had smallish rooms but very clean and staff was very helpful (I brushed up for weeks on my high school French, including buying instrucional tapes, and everything worked out great - only once did we experience a rude waiter and he was just having a bad day - otherwise, everyone was friendly). We were close to the Louvre and could easily walk to everything else that we had to see on our firsrt visit.
Last time, we wanted to be on the Left Bank so we booked at the Hotel D'Angleterre on the Rue Jacob, 6th arrond. - near Blvd. St. Germain. Check it out in Fodor's Rivages Hotels of Character & Charm in Paris. Better than the Montana-Tuileries, nice staff, charming and well located. Though the staff speaks English, they clearly seem to appreciate attempts at conversing in their own tongue. Bon Voyage!
