Hi

I will be in Paris with family for four days starting this monday.

we plan to climb eiffel tower at around 5 pm on monday and then go for a cruise on Seine . This should go on for another 1.30 hrs.
So we will be free at around 7.30 pm.

Can you suggest one or two more spots we can see on the same day before retiring for the day.

Is it safe to travel in the Paris subways and RER and Metros late in the evenings or after dark?

Once dark arrives, immediately proceed to a taxi and go directly back to your hotel for safety reasons.

You're going to be in Paris tomorrow and you're asking for "spots" to finish the evening? Is this the definition of "advanced planning"?

Well, your Monday plan has a problem. There is NO way you can climb the tower and do the cruise between 5 and 7:30

Figure a MINIMUM of 30 to 40 minutes in line to buy tickets for the tower. (You have to have tickets even if you walk) If you don't walk plan on waits for the elevators (if you walk plan on rest breaks) So you arrive at 5, you are looking at at least an hour to get to the viewing platform. Then you need to spend a few mintues there.

Basically, you would be doing good to get DOWN the tower by 7:30 and then the cruise.

(And ignore the "smart" post about going home as son as it's dark.... )

However, you might want to spend some time today researching. If the rest of your plan is this ambitious time wise you may be in trouble.

I would walk along the Seine from where ever the boat drops you off, walk across the bridges and back, and generally let fate take control. Find a cafe that beckons you in and have a glass of wine or two. Stay on for dinner if you are having fun. I don't know if you'll be up for much more after climbing the Eiffel Tower!

sorry for the late planning .
actually the rest of the days are quite packed up.
we plan to be in disney land on tuesday,versailles on wed and then in the evening cover the Champs de elysees and on thursday we plan to start at Louvre, then Notre Dam Cathedral,Invalides and Rodin museum before boarding train to retun home to Lausanne in the 6pm train.

Any more beatings pls......

Well, just do the best you can.. unlike most of us, you're just a train ride away...

My apologies to you as I was simply trying for some Sunday morning humor.

Your schedule sounds great, but I agree with some of the suggestions about Monday evening. A simple long walk after your Seine cruise is really enjoyable that should include a stop at an outdoor cafe.

Any extra room in one of your suite cases? Have a great trip!!!

I think thay your thursday is too, too loaded! I would save Louvre for the next trip! Maybe instead Louvre you will visit Orsay, which is smaller and so nice !

thanks to all of you we had a great trip to paris , albeit hectic....

Monday -- we reached paris --- we were ate the eiffel tower base around 5 pm but by the time we completed our ride it was 9 already. We went for the Seine river cruise at 9.30 and it was an absolute delight. We went to bed late after midnight.
Tuesday -- Disneyland. We covered the Walt Disney Studio but couldn't take the rides in Disney Park -- waiting time at simple merry-go-rounds were atleast 30 mins. Anyway we had geat fun going around and shopping....

Wednesday -- Versailles was closed for some reason. RER C was also closed. We changed plans and reached Louvre. My Rick Stevens audio guide was an absolute treat. From Louvre we went to Orsay -- Rick was there again -- his audio guide helped us enjoy Monet and Vangogh to the hilt. The colours are still live in our eyes. We bought a lot of paintings too .
At Orsay we had our lunch at the Museum Cafe. After that we went to Notre Dam.It was evening by then and after watching the evening mass there and ofcourse the gargoyles, we proceeded towards the Champs-de-Elysees.We started at Concorde and went upto Arc de Triomph anf finally ending our day with some beer and pizza at a cafe on the Champs-de-elysees very near the franklin d roosevelt metro station.

Thursday -- We spent the day at the versailles before returning to get a hair cut at a paris salon and then returning home to Lausanne.

Paris is truely the cultural capital of the world. I would surely be a artist or a painter if I was born there.

The transportation system is simply fabulous and with the orange carte it was all so easy . The museum pass was also helpful in removing all the worries of standing in long queues particularly in the searing heat at versailles. With all shops remaining open till 10.30 pm it was quite a refreshing change for us from switzerland.
Lausanne is a small village compared to Paris, no doubt.
