Evening in Paris

After Christmas, we have an overnight layover in Paris on our flight to Orlando, FL from Rome. It's our wedding anniversary and we would like to stay in the city and enjoy a Parisian dinner. Our flight leaves CDG at 1:30PM the following day. Need to have advice on many things: Hotels, restaurants, logistics, etc.. For example, will our checked luggage have to be retrieved in Paris, then rechecked the next day? What's the best way to get into the city (and back out)?

You probably don't have much time in Paris so Hotel-restaurants-transportation need to be considered together. Paris restaurant world is enormous. You probably need to narrow it down on your own if you don't want to get recommendations all over the map.

I don't like leaving luggage in cargo area any longer than necessary. It seems every time I left luggage for many hours at checked-in luggage area, someone other than the airport security seem to go through my luggage. I would recommend checking your luggage only to CDG and retrieve them there. You either take them with you or use a storage service (I have not used them) like this:

http://www.aeroportsdeparis.fr/ADP/e...ages-Monde.htm

Best way to get/in out? Depends on when you are arriving, what you want to make "best." A taxi will take you anywhere without hassles for a price. RER train is cheap but you have to figure out how to get to your accomodation with luggage potentially during rush hour when you arrive.

There are buses to specific locations: http://www.aeroportsdeparis.fr/ADP/e...air-france.htm, here is additional info on bus http://www.parisescapes.com/paris_cdg_to_paris_bus.html

While others may disagree, for a memorable type of dinner for anniversary, unless you are going to a most casual place, make a reservation even the same afternoon to at least get a decent table -- not the one at the entrance or in front of the kitchen door (before you fly to Paris.) For a place with name recognition (often written up in high end food/travel magazines,) do it weeks before. For the very top tier Michelin starred restaurants or currently hot places, you need to make a reservation even more in advance. The Paris residents on this forum probably can tell you if the days after Christmas is a tough period to get a table.

Hi hk,

I would take a shuttle (www.Parishuttle.com, www.beeshuttle.com,
www.paris-blue-airport-shuttle.fr/index_en.php) or cab (about 55E) to http://www.hotelbonaparte.fr/.

The hotel will arrange a shuttle for you back to the airport. Their contact is better than most other services at the same price.

I would arrange for dinner at one of the following,

http://www.petit-zinc.com/

La Maison du Jardin, 27, rue de Vaugirard,

Enjoy your visit.

You could take the RER B line from CDG to St Michel, exit on Ile de la Cite. From there you could walk past Notre Dame and carry on over to Ile St Louis, to your hotel located in an 18th century mansion. On the small main street, there are multiple good restaurants.

After dinner, leasurely walk along street, perhaps grab a cone of famous Berthillon ice cream, over to Seine, the lights, the boats, hang out on a bridge with Eiffel tower sparkling in the distance.

Go with Michel_Paris' suggestion....Ile St Louis is so charming and would be romantic (and I can't turn down Berthillon...get the salted butter caramel ice cream if they have it-beyond fabulous)!

If you take the train in, you won't have to worry about losing time in traffic! www.parisbytrain.com is very helpful for figuring out how it works and info you will find helpful.

Just to throw up another idea, you could add a visit to the top of the Montparnesse 56 tower. Some say it gives you the best view of Paris because you can see the Eiffel Tower. Its also more centrally located and there generally are not the long lines associated with the Eiffel tower. As sunset is prior to the usually Parisian dinner time, you may be able to fit this in before your meal booking, giving you great views of the city after dusk.
