Evening Activities in Paris
 

My husband and I will be in Paris for a short overnight stay in March. We are trying to decide what to do for that one evening. We had considered the dinner cruise on the River Seine, but would like to wait and see what the weather is. Would hate to pay $100 for it and have it rain! Another consideration was the Moulon Rouge with or without dinner. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Has anyone tried either one of these? We are not artsy people or into museums or dance clubs, but would just like to spend a nice evening with a good meal, good drinks, and good fun! In fact my husband would be quite happy to sit in pub all night! Thanks for your suggestions!

Don't bother with the River Seine dinner cruise, as the food is pretty bad and expensive (for French standards). You better take the cruise during the day or in the evening, and then choose a nice restaurant somewhere else. There are plenty in Paris. Moulin Rouge is ok for the show, just like the Lido, but again the food is not good. I think they have shows at 10.30 PM, so it means you can have dinner somewhere else before.

We've been on the Seine River Cruise twice and selected the higher priced dinner cruise. It was lovely and the food was good as well as the service. Linens, china, crystal, waiters wearing tuxedos and a band with a female singer on board for your listening and dancing pleasure. Low, romantic lighting. Wine was included with the meal.

I'd suggest dinner at a fun bistro or brasserie instead of one of those "canned" experiences. Check rants and raves section here. We had an enjoyable dinner at Les Bookinistes last year. There were a lot of tourists but the food was good, looking out the window at the Seine was terrific, and we really felt like it was a good Paris experience. We also enjoyed a more low key dinner (seated at a long table with other diners) at Polidor in St Germain, not far from the Odeon Metro. (It is in many guide books). The best wine choice may be their carafes of house wines...or if one wants red and the other white, you can get a smaller "pichet" (?) I think that was what it was called -- about two glasses worth and perfect for a 3 course dinner. Take your time with dinner, like the Europeans do. They aren't worried about "turning over" tables like they are in the States, and you will enjoy your food, and enjoy the ambiance and enjoy people watching!

C'mon amandaM. Your motives for digging up a series of old threads is pretty obvious.

Consider jazz or a wine tasting. We did both on our last trip. Wine tasting was with O-Chateaux. We did once at the owner's apartment but then again more recently at the nice restaurant setting they now have http://o-chateau.com. Jazz you can see what might be on in www.timeout.com the Paris edition (there is an English edition)
