I need to reserve a hotel within easy walking distance of Euston station/Euston Square tube but finding the area it which it's classified is difficult. Sometimes it's NW London, other times Soho, and sometimes I cannot find it.

Any help would be appreciated. Hotel recommendations would be great too

Euston Station is most definitely NOT in NW London nor in Soho.

Actually, hotels close to Euston will clearly say they are walking distance to Euston. The best neighborhood to look would be Bloomsbury/Russell Square/Cartwright Gdns/Tavistock Sq.

I've stayed at the Tavistock a couple of times, just for one night, before taking a train from Euston to Liverpool. It's okay. You might try the Ibis Euston, which is very close to the station. I think there's a Travel Inn as well.

In Cardington St (alongside the station) are the Ibis and the Thistle, just around the corner from Drummond St. Very well situated for Euston underground and bus routes to all directions.

There's also a Novotel a little further along Euston Rd (nearer St Pancras, as I recall).

www.yell.com lets you search by postcode - use NW1 and WC1, and then check the map they provide.

OK - I guess I see what you meant by NW - the hotel's postcode might be NW1. But that isn't "Northwest" London. When you said NW I thought you were talking about a geographic area because you also used Soho (which isn't a post code). Yes- some of NW1 will be near Euston. Hope that helps.

(Parts of Westminster have a SW1 postcode but that is definitely not "southwest" London. Can be a bit confusing.)

Several years ago we stayed at the Ibis Euston. It was literally across the street from the Euston Station. If I'm not mistaken, there was also a Thistle Hotel next door to the Ibis.

Well, nomenclature can be a problem when the the &quot;center&quot; of most visitors' London is called <b>West End</b>.

My brit friend tells me the area around the station is not the best and that I should stay near russell square and take the bus to my appointments at the station...

Why do you have to stay on the same street as the station? I would take your friend's advice as to the best neighborhood for your visit -- it's very easy to get around on public transport.

to see what opportunities bus connections would offer you.

Bloomsbury and Marylebone are the obvious areas.

I am a slave to the metro in Paris and therefore would prefer to be able to walk to a conference which is being held by Euston station.

A 10-15 minute walk would be ideal. The Landmark Hotel looks very nice but I don't fancy the &quot;long&quot; journey...

We stayed at the Hilton Euston station a couple months ago through Priceline. It would not be my first choice but the area was fine. Russell Square was not very far, I think 5-10 minutes so that would be a good option.

The Landmark's well within 15 minutes, though the shlep along Marylebone/Euston Road's not the prettiest in London.

Your British friend is suffering from the traditional British ignorance of most of London if he/she thinks there's anything wrong with the area round Euston. Add the Novotel and the Premier Travel Inn to immediately adjacent chain hotels. Mrs O recently stayed at the Euston Hilton and utterly loathed it.

The Islington Hilton and Jury's Islington are both within 15 mins walk (though I walk fast). They're in a vibrant area of town, quite unlike the tourist ghetto of Bloomsbury

The Holiday Inn Bloomsbury might be in a tourist ghetto, but it's reasonably convenient to Euston Square, and I liked it very well. Someone can correct me, no doubt, but I think the district that encompasses Euston Square is called Camden.

Russell Square is only about 0.5 mile from Euston, and the Landmark maybe 0.3 mile. All definitely within a 15-minute walking distance. One can easily spend that much time just walking up and down tube station in London.
