euschwanstein Castle reservations in Nov?
Will be in Munich in November and I am planning on visitng the castle (by car). Several guidebooks talk abut reservations in peak season but how about in Nov? Thanks for any input. Any great stops along the way?

Clearly I meant to put the"N" on Neuschwanstein, sorry

We were there in early May and did not need a reservation and had no problem.

You really should not have a problem. I am a soldier living in Germany, and have been down that way during the peak season and had no problem staying in the Shwangau and Fussen areas. The best way to stay in the smaller German locals is in Zimmer Frei's. Just rooms for rent. They are good even for family's, really get you into the atmosphere, and usually include a wonderful German breakfast to start off your day. That castle is going to be beautiful in the winter. Have fun!!!

thirtythree, did you have any specific names of places to stay? Thanks |
I am sorry for the vague post. I meant do I need a reservation time for the castles to avoid a long line? RC

There should be no line at that time of year and no problem.

The castle has a pretty efficient queue system. You show up, even on the busy days, and basically you pay for a ticket for a set group. They tell you what time you need to be back to line up, and there are usually three or for queues ready to go at any time, they are done electronically. So while you wait, you juant around the castle, check out the views, look at the waterfall, etc. etc. Even on busy days, the time goes by quickly.
The tour is great, but wish I could explore the rest of the place on my own. Its only about 30 percent finished though, so I guess they dont want you to see the rest. Zimmer Freis are up in the air. You don't really make reservations. You just go find one. I know it doesnt sound "sound", especially to us Americans. In the busy season, this is flaky. Right now, these people would welcome you with a discount. Guaranteed. If not, you can come stay at my place in Schweinfurt (a few hours north). |
