Eurostar - one way vs round trip
 

Is there any reason, if it works out cheaper, that I can't buy a round trip ticket but only use one way.

I would assume I could do this - but I wasn't sure....

I think it's done quite often. I am sure others will comment on this, also.

I assume you're talking about doing a day return, $94 round trip from RailEurope, that can be used on any train any day, subject to availability - hard to find on some days - there apparently is no control on whether you return or not. This would be cheaper, by far, than the $150 RailEurope charges for Fri-Sun travel (but not cheaper than the $90 returns available Mon-thu 11am-3pm trains) - www.eurostar.co.uk has 59 pound returns for any day, subject to hard to get at times availability. In the US to get the best info on Eurostar i always recommend calling Linda at BETS (800-441-2387), a Eurostar whizz - though she is a RailEurope agent, you'll get much better service from her and BETS doesn't charge some of RailEurope's fees. But back to your question - no controls it seems - ferry boats on day returns used to allow no carry on luggage but Eurostar doesn't do this in my experience.

I just bought two Eurostar tickets -- London to Paris for September...You can book up to 180 days in advance, and then you can get them for $94. The longer you wait the more likely the cheap tickets are going to be gone. A one-way ticket is $150. We buy the RT ticket and just don't get on the train back.

It is rumored that Eurostar sends press-gangs into the streets of London and Paris to shanghai the round-trippers back on the train.

But it's only a rumor (heh, heh).

Obviously Eurostar could de-rail the day trip abuse if they wanted to - like the ferries used to by not allowing passengers to bring luggage aboard. so they chose not to - the number of day trip seats is quite limited so they have calculated everything - may be way of competing with discount airlines.

I just bought 1 way London to Paris , 2 tickets for a Sunday 9 Am train , with shipping and the Premier train fee it came to $202.00 from RailEurope..just a wee bit cheaper than buying from Eurostar in UK

We've done it. Just wear dark glasses and a trench coat, as per Robespierre's warning. :D

We did it also, it was actually recommended by an agent. Paris to London.

Deeply discounted tickets may become more available on Eurostar due to the fact that they're converting some first class coaches to standard class, freeing up more seats for these at times hard to get fares.
