Eurostar London-Paris : $140 -- isn't this high?

I thought I found a cheaper rate than $140 last year for a Eurostar r/t from London to Paris. If this is the standard cheapest fare, I won't bother spending time looking for a cheaper fare. thanks to anyone who can advise.

Just to clarify, that's $140 USD.

Did you use the Eurostar site?

Did you say you lived in the US?

That price isn't too bad for that route - approximately £77. However, the eurostar.com site has return fares of £59 for various dates in November (for example), which is around $106.

It depends a lot on the day / time of day / time of year / how far in advance you book so if you're flexible, play around with dates.

That's how much I paid for mine for travel in early November. Play around with both websites: sncf.com and eurostar.com

Good luck!

I paid $150/pp R/T in Feb 2002 and included a guided bus tour for the first couple of hours in Paris.

Hi Fishee.
We have just returned from a holiday in London, where we took the Eurostar to Paris and return for 57 pounds. Check the Eurostar site for specials.
PS. Paris was great.

The reason I asked my question was I have been under the impression that if the website thinks you are/live in Europe you can get better pricing.

RailEurope abolished their $90 one way or return fares several weeks ago, instead instituting a tiered fare structre - $140 is the cheapest non-Day Return return fare though they do have an $89 one-way fare and for seniors 60 and over a $95 about fare each way and for those under 26 as low as $77 each way. But for return no Raileurope has only the $140 as the lowest and it could be much higher. As usual you should check the sites SusieR and craisin and Dukey recommend - sites for fares in pounds (www.eurostar.com) and those in euros (www.voyages-sncf.com) and then also Raileurope - www.raileurope.com - and call BETS (800-441-2387), a RE agent because RE is notorious for seemingly having an available fare and then when they respond it's higher - i always recommend talking to someone who will exhaustively search for the lowest bookable fare and for that BETS is the best in my experience. But with RE or BETS you still must pay a $15 booking fee per order and possible mailing fees which you don't on the online in Europe sites. But compare all options and be flexible as to train time and even dates is possible. Mon-Thu you have a much better chance of getting a cheaper fare.

thanks all. I'm in the U.S. -- the website gave me the price in dollars. Sounds as if this is the standard low rate, maybe it just sounded lower because I paid in pounds last time.

< sites for fares in pounds (www.eurostar.com) >

Em you can get www.eurostar.com in GBP, EUR, USD and probably several other currencies.

All you have to do is tell it which country you are in (or claim to be in) when you first enter the site & it takes the currency of that clountry (or USD if not available).

If the option isn't given then you have to clear the 2 Eurostar cookies and reopen your web browser

Bigal - nice price and even better the conditions on this fare allow a change up until the time of the train without penalty - senior fares i've seen on www.eurostar.com in pounds don't allow changes - so conditions can vary between where you buy the ticket.
