Eurostar--how far in advance to book
 

My husband and I are leaving for London about mid-May. We're going to Paris on a Sunday. How far in advance should we book the tickets and is it good to book it via Eurostar? I've seen some say that roundtrip is better than one way. How can you see roundtrip vs one way on the web site? <BR>And is first class really that much better than second? I see first class as $199 and second as $119 (is this for round trip?) <BR>Thanks in advance for any help.

Eurostar is doing £50 day-trip return tickets at the moment, but I do not know what dates they are valid till. <BR>I think booking ahead will always get you the cheaper options, but they will have restrictions. <BR>

JoAnne - <BR>I did a one-day trip to Paris from London last June. It was great fun, although a whirlwind trip. I was purchasing a Britrail pass and got a discounted Eurostar fare when I purchased it with my Britrail Pass. I paid about $200 roundtrip. Of course, you must purchase the Britrail Pass from the states, before you leave. <BR>Martha <BR> <BR>

Dear JoAnne: For a three-hour train ride I consider second class MORE than comfortable enough on the Eurostar. If you can book from here in the States I suppose it would be a good idea--but keep Nigel's tip about promotional fares in mind. Fifty pounds return is a real bargain. Have a good trip. Joan

There was a promotional fare this February which said "can be purchase on the day you depart". Yup - except all the promotional fare tickets were sold out! So, take my advice, if there's a 50 pound fare - BOOK IT NOW! (think of it as a cheap airline fare - you snooze, you lose) <BR> <BR>Thanks, Nigel, I won't need a ticket for a few months but I'm checking it out right now!

Where did you find the 50 pound fare? I can't find it on eurostar.com. Thanks.
