Eurostar Help

Has anyone bought same day return tickets London-paris on eurostar 1-2 days before departure at the station? Does anyone know if tickets are usually available, and if so do they cost more? we’re looking at August (weekday). I find the euorstar pricing completely confusing. Britainshrinkers has got a same day return, with a 2hr bus tour, at £149. On Eurostar.co.uk looks like the pricing for the same day return is £298? I really don’t want the 2hr tour but somehow it costs less, can this be correct? Any help in sorting this out would be appreciated.

Cathy,

We just returned from a trip to London. During our stay we took the Britainshrinkers day trip to Paris. We purchased our tickets before departing the USA. We did have a bus tour in the morning upon arrival in Paris. We departed the bus tour early to sightsee on our own. Maybe you could skip the bus tour altogether, just let the Guide know what your plans are. The Guide did not have a problem with us departing early, she directed us to the meeting site and told us what time to be there for the return to London. It worked out very well, we never had any problems. Sorry, I don't have any information on purchasing tickets at the station. Best wishes.

Lynn--If you did not wish to leave the tour early to explore on your own, were you able to just stay with the guide beyond the two hours while in Paris and if so, what other siteseeing was included, if any, or is everyone expected to "do their own thing"? Will be in Paris on the same tour in two weeks and I'm just trying to get a feel for things. Thanks for your response.

Lynn, thanks for the info. I'll check with Britainshrinkers about leaving the bus tour. Do you remember what time you had to be back at the meeting point for the return to London? Just trying to get an idea of how much time we would actually have.
Thanks!

Scaltreto,

If you did not want to depart from the tour in Paris you could stay with the guide. After the bus tour they offered optional tours such as a cruise on the River Seine and a tour of the Louvre with the Guide (both an additional charge). I believe you could stay with the Guide the whole time if you wish, if you don't take the Louvre tour you can meet up with her afterwards (about 2 hrs). Sorry for the late reply, I hope I caught you before you left. Have a great time!!

Cathy,

We had to meet up with the Guide and our traveling companions in the basement (? - down 3 escalators) of the Louvre, near the Inverted Paramid, at
5:45pm Paris time (one hour ahead of London). I believe we had about 4 or so hours on our own. We had plenty of time to go up in the Eiffel Tower, walk around (it was approx. 45 min. walk from the Eiffel Tower to the Louvre), eat lunch, and shop and actually we returned to the meeting point a little early!

Hi-
Did you see the Britainshrinkers web page? They offer 1 day unescorted tours. I went to Paris with Britainshrinkers 2 years ago, & it was very pleasant. Since we spent a week in Paris last summer, I don't think a tour is necessary. I am thinking of just going over for the day to shop with my 17 year old daughter in May. Not a bad price>

Ann, the unescorted day trip with Britainshrinkers must be new. Last time I checked their website they were only offering escorted tours. But their price for the unescorted day trip is best I've seen yet for a same day return, and it seems most people have had a positive experience with them.
