Eurostar: 1st class vs. 2nd class?
 

Hi everyone. Does any one know the difference in comfort,*reserved seating, storage, etc. between a first a 1st class Eurostar ride and a 2nd class ride? I am primarily riding from Rome to Florence, Florence to Venice, then Venice to Rome with 1 large piece of luggage. Any advice?<BR><BR>Thanks,<BR>Amy

Amy, I rode the Eurostar from Paris to London and back in 2nd class. The seats are very comfortable and there is plenty of room at the back of the car for luggage. There is food available in a separate car.

I've never ridden anything but first class on the Eurostar between these cities so I can't comment on the difference. But since I can't afford first class on airplanes, this was my chance to indulge myself. It's not that much more.... and you are on vacation!

I fly first (miles, not a Rockefeller) and travel in 2nd on the trains. Just did the Rome to Florence trip in second and it was fine. <BR><BR>Amenities on trains aren't that great and typically take food on board anyways (I'm not that picky as I'll eat plane food, but think train food is pretty bad). Use the far difference to buy a nice lunch to take on board.

Hi Amy: I think second class is fine - however on the trip from Venice to Rome I would book 1st class as it's a longer ride than the others - it's nice to be able to stretch a bit. Have fun!!!

We did the same as e did...2nd class from Rome to Florence, and Florence to Venice...but 1st from Venice to Rome. I will say the restrooms in 1st class are MUCH nicer. But, for shorter trips we would stick with 2nd class again. We did not have reserved seats for 2nd class...wish we did on one of the trips as we were sitting on our luggage in the aisle, but we survived:)

On Eurostar trains the only differencebetween first and second class is that the first class seats are slightly wider. Both first and second allow a decent overhead space and a wide space in the back of the car for the luggage. Further space can be found between the two opposite seats (behind you as you are sitting), large enough for a big bag. There is no difference on the uality of food served, but first and second class passengers can use the bar and restaurant coach, which serves barely edible food at very high prices (better to self-cater at some supermarket). Both first and second classes have similar toilets, both first nad second class seats must be booked in advance (usually a couple of days are enough).<BR><BR>Msa:<BR><BR>If you have been able to travel with no booking and there was a difference between first and second class restrooms, than you must have travelled on an Intercity train. Eurostars require booking and restrooms are exactly the same for first and second class.
