Euros in Switzerland

We are traveling to Munich on April 10 and we will have some money converted to Euros. My question is this, we are also traveling to Austria and Switzerland, do we need to change money for each place we visit or is the Euro excepted in Austria and Switzerland too?? Thanks for your help!!

I don't know about Austria, but you need Swiss francs in Switzerland.

SF? San Francisco? (well, I actually know what you meant) - - but the "preferred abbreviation" is CHF - - as in "CH" francs (Confederatio Helveticae - - or something like that).

Best wishes,

Rex

We all strive for the truth here, right? CH stands for Confoederatio Helvetica.

Switzerland is not part of the EU so they don't accept euros. I have heard rumors that some places in Switzerland will accept euros. Does anyone know if this is true?

Just curious.

I remember the souvenir kiosks at Rhine Falls have price tags in €.

The Zurich airport duty free also takes €, with their "conversion rate".

If you're near the border and all you have is euros some places will accept them - but your exchange rate will be at a premium - so you'll pay over regular prices - because they have to go to the truoble to exchange euros back into francs.

I've been in Switzerland four different times, and have only used Swiss franc. I guess there might possibly be places that would accept other currencies(?) but I wouldn't count on it. Plan to change into Swiss Franc for that part of your trip.

Austria's currency is the Euro, so no problem here.

*Some* places accept Euros in Switzerland (at some ungodly exchange rate, I would suspect), but it's not widespread at all. You'll have to use Swiss francs.

Get some Swiss Francs in Switzerland. Only certain places such as souvenir shops, shops near the border and chain supermarkets (Migors & Coop at reasonable exchange rate)accept EURO. But then usually you will get the change in Swiss Francs.

I'm used to writing CHF but once in a while see Sfr.even in Switzerland so am not surprised to see people outside Europe write SF.
