euros in Prague? Budapest?
I know these cities/countries have their own currency, but we will be arriving on a Sunday by car and won't have opportunity to get to an ATM. Are Euros accepted in these places.

Not when I was in those two cities two years ago. Get to a bank and buy some money before you arrive there.
Have fun. |
Hi t,
If you do find someone to accept euros, the exchange rate will be highly in their favor. There are ATMs all over the city. Your hotel will be able to direct you to one. ((I)) |
No Euros for purchases in Budapest. Although a number of hotel websites and things will quote the price in Euro, the charge will be in forints.
There's a number of exchange windows around town, such as on the Vaci Utca. But as ira said, atm's are everywhere - easily more available than exchange windows. If you're arriving by car, many decent size towns on the way to Budapest will also have at least one ATM near the center. We made a quick stop in Nyiregyhaza, which is a pretty fair sized town, when coming back out of NE Romania. Found an ATM just like that and were off again. Very quick and easy. |

You really need to re-think the "won't have an oppurtunity" part unless you want a lot of extra hassle and a poorer exchange rate. |
Can't speak for Budapest, but in Prague, Euros are accepted by a lot of places in the really touristy areas, but with a crappy exchange rate and, because they are really touristy places, they're already overpriced. Throw enough Euros at anyone, and they're likely to take it, but you get rid of any price advantage Prague has over Western Europe. ATMs are very common and take about 30 seconds to use, why can't you get to one?

I thought I could not get to an ATM
because we are being dropped off by a driver on a Sunday. Its called a Residence, don't know if its really a hotel. Thanks for the help everyone. |
ATMs are open 24/7, doesn't matter that it's a Sunday. You might have to wait 5 minutes to check in the "Residence" while you find one, but no big deal (assuming you're paying in cash).
