European Trivial Trivia Quiz #8

Guess the city or region by clues:

1- The Florence on the Elbe

2- City with Germany's largest grouping of Third Reich relics, just a few kms south of town at Hitler's and the Third Reich's vast parade grouns - stadium where the Fuhrer famously reviewed goose-stepping troops from a balcony is still there, blacony and all

3- Saxon Switzerland

4- Where Leonardo Da Vinci died.

5- This Loire chateau/town was famous for one King Louis' infamous Hanging Cages where enemies of the king were literally hung out in darkness in cages not tall enough to stand up in for years sometimes.

6- This region of France once included half of Switzerland

7- Waterfalls near Meiringen, Switzerland where Sherlock Holmes and arch enemy Dr Moriarity fought, with the eveil Doctor presumably tumbling to his death in the roaring waters far below the belevedere they fought on.

8 - The Big Wheel (as my grandma from this town used to call it) has been a mainstay in this city's Prater Park for over a century.

9- European capital city known for its Bear Pits for the critter it gets its name from.

10 - Lady Chatterlee shed her clothes for a horseback parade thru this English city.

No cheating allowed - Big Brother is watching!

How many did you know?

Just having fun but you can quibble over the answers if I am in error, please!

I don't think lady Chatterley rode a horse naked anywhere. The game keeper yes, but a horse no.

You mean Lady Godiva.

I'm guessing Buxtehude for all of them and hoping I get at least one right.

Nope nada - though I had never ever never ever heard of Buxtehude the picture in Wiki makes at least part of it look dreamy - like Venice with a canal for a main street?

3 What is the question? Great question!

Oops - another faux pas - meant to ask where was Saxon Switzerland - south of Dresden up to the Czech border, along the Elbe River and to me one of the most awesome river valleys in Europe (after the Mosel!).

Danke for the correcto!

Got 9 of the 10 - not 6. And agree that Lady Chatterlee riding naked through Coventry would have caused the book to be banned in many more places when first published.

Ah #6 - I would not have known it offhand either but it were a question on Jeopardy (American TV quiz show) that asked "This French region once contained half of Switzerland" and the right question to answer was "What was Burgundy" - so assuming Jeopardy's staff had checked it all out I went with it without further research.

I assume all the French-speaking part of Switzerland once belonged to the Counts or Dukes of Burgundy.
