We too are headed for Paris and Italy and the forum has already been quite helpful. Thanks so much.
As it stands now, our itinerary calls for us to be in Paris for 3 or 4 days and then travel to Venice/Florence and Rome for ten days.

Can /should we take an overnight train from Paris to Venice and while I've not searched yet, are there any suggestions on a nice hotel in Venice?

You can whether you should is up to your criteria and whether you could fly cheaper.

I like the overnight train between Paris and Venice (although some prefer to fly) as long as you book a private sleeper compartment.
