European Rail Snooze 123a: All Trains Now Non-Smoking...but
It appears that practically all European trains are now non-smoking throughout except for some trains in Germany and Austria - in these two countries the fastest trains are non-smoking but i think regional trains are not. There may be other regional train exceptions perhaps i don't know about but you can be practically assured now that the train you'll be on is totally non-smoking!
Stations are too but in someplaces this is not enforced, like in France where even conductors are seen puffing away outside the train.
I'd appreciate corrections or comments on experiences with smoking on trains and enforcement!

In Germany, this August, I saw the conductors puffing away in a non smoking car!!
It was a ICE 279 from Berlin to Interlaken Ost. Hard to enforce the smoking ban when passengers see crew members breaking the rules.

I've seen the same in Italy and more than once in France.
On the other hand i did see a conductor on the Frankfurt-Paris train last year reprimand a smoker, warning him that he better not be seen smoking anymore or he would be ejected.

this has also happened to me on several U.K. trains - especially conductorless suburban trains in London - actually however last year i did finally see a train staffer upbraid someone for smoking - citing what a fire hazzard it was and he would be fined and thrown off the train if he lit up again.
