European Rail Guide
 

Hope this isn't considered advertising, but just had to comment on PalQ's post of 8/18/06 in regards to trains in Europe (since I'm new here,had just found his post). On his suggestion, I went to the Budget Europe Travel Service's web site and requested the Planning and Rail Guide. It came in the mail like two days later! And,it was FREE.
On it's cover, it says,"Europe Dreaming"; and, boy,that's what this small town gal is doing right now. Chock full of info. Thanks PalQ.

Oh, thank you, Gal, this is great! I will be taking trains in Europe, at least planning now on doing so, will definitely request a guide for myself too. They will thank you later :))

PalQ, I do read your posts, but somehow missed this one. Sorry :X

We, too, took PalQ's advice, and our rail guide has been great help as we plan our trip for later this month.

The only cost is postage, not more than $2-$3.

I typed in my home address. What I liked the most is that e-mail address is optional :)

I'll keep you posted! For now, it's all about anticipation ;)

I telephoned BETS (800-441-2387), and talked to a really nice man who answered lots of questions for me.

I gave him a credit card number for the postage. The package arrived very quickly.

My husband has had a great time checking out all the posibilities for day trips from Bruges and Amsterdam!

Byrd - i remember the question you asked about how to receive the Eurail Timetable and i told you BETS would probably send them, or at least it was in their catalog, for a $2 postage charge - this is why i think you paid for the postage.

Their European Planning & Rail Guide has always been sent free and yes it says so on their site: www.budgeteuropetravel.com - so i think you paid $2-3 for postage only because you got the Eurail Timetable as well??

I was interested in the timetable, but the planning guide has been much enjoyed, too!

smalltowngal - thanks for the thanks. I always also refer folks to www.ricksteves.com as his site has excellent coverage of European railpasses as well - he gives info on alternatives as well as listings of budget airlines. It's a great site to learn about European trains and railpasses.

Anybody knows how long will it take (approximately!) for a guide to arrive?

I live in San Francisco, ordered only the free guide on-line.

Faina, have you rec'd your guide yet? I ordered mine when I saw this post, and got it last week - so it probably took 10 days for me to get it.

I think they mail it from Ann Arbor, actually.

I got my schedule yesterday, and the other one supposed to go to my son's... guess what! just got off the phone with him - he hadn't checked his snail mail this week! And he can do it only tomorrow!

So, Una, as soon as he tells me he got the schedule I'll mail you mine, and get his later.

Una, my son had not received the booklet, so I'm at work now, taking copies of all pages, it's a small booklet like a small magazine, and I'll send you the copies.
