bilboburgler:I will give you this one.
Actually history has it as:
Utah and Omaha ... USA
Gold and Sword ....Britsh
Juno ...........Canadian

But because many countries contributed I like your answer.

Those that landed on say Omaha Beach were USA and under USA command. etc.

6- don't know Danish name but if I recall right it's the Round Tower and sits in a sweet park.

4- can't quite remember the Portuguese name but something like Geronimo - in Belem a really nice part of Lisbon with grandiose monuments extant from those Golden Days.

10 - I've taken that lift many times but in the too distant past to remember - it goes up from the Baixa district.

Good tough questions that I will love learning the answers too!

Note for annhig:
take your time about the Venice quiz - you are working I think and do not have the leisure time others do - no pressure - next week, week after or never it's fine though I think with your insight it would be a keen quiz and you can be your onw judge - I'll come up with something for tomorrow unless someone like tom who has done some before or others step in (hopefully - cupboard is nearly bare!).

#5 Is it Amalienborg Castle for the crown jewels?

#7 If I recall the story correctly, wasn't Antwerp's statue hurling the hand of a giant who was threatening the city?

I love this thread although it makes me feel like I really should have paid much more attention in history classes. Regarding the specific details. I had the the opportunity to go to Normandy a few years ago, and it was so very memorable. My mother's cousin was killed there as his twin witnessed this horrific event. The family never recovered. So many tragedies from this and all wars.
