European Labor Day ( May 1st )

My fiance and I will be in Krakow on May 1st and I was wondering if any of the major sights in Krakow or the surrounding areas (Auschwitz in particular)will be closed due to the holiday?

I'm not sure about May 1 but in general most museums in Poland are closed on Mondays and May 1st happens to be on a Monday this year.

I haven't been there on that date, but would assume so regarding museums. I imagine the churches and cathedrals will be open, though. As Caroline says, all the major museums and Wawel castle are closed on Monday anyway, in Krakow. There is lots of info in www.inyourpocket.com on Krakow sightseeing.

Auschwitz Museum and Memorial is open every day except Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Admission is free but make sure you bring your own sandwiches/snacks. As said earlier, many other museums in the city may be closed on Monday.
