Another delightful spot to visit, 2 words (1st foreign) (7, 9) though it sounds like it might not be pleasant. (second word, 2nd letter E in Braque)
The man who had it built, 3 words (10, 6, 8 first a title) had a loopy sense of humor. (3rd word begins with letter S in cubism and it sounds like what you don't want to do while there)
An alternate spelling of his first name is the same name as a ruler (6,8) (second word, last letter S from Seine) from the same country/region as the architect of the sight (7,6) (second word 4th letter A from Charles X)

The ruler in 3rd clue/paragraph is Roman.
How many 7-letter countries begin with A? (we're talking Europe)
I included this site because DH & I saw it on TV (possibly the Connections series on PBS, totally fascinating) and took our students to see it, though they thought we were all wet.
Sorry I'm not around much--we're opening a district office of AARP Tax-Aide and it's been mad! Averaging 60 returns in a 9-3 day, and my brain turns off when I wheel in the garage (or todayi--5th in a row, it turned off when I was driving home).

Well I knew it was probably either Austria or Albania, and it's most probably Austria (doubt Albania is on the tourist circuit, but then, you never know). But there wasn't enough to really search for. Anyway I'll try to check on Monday if no one else has tried it.

OK, First word in the site is German for castle. Yes, it's Austria. And what you don't want to do when you're there is sit. And the title of the owner who ordered the building of the castle is a clerical one.
I'm off to Albq today, but will continue to check in since after 6 straight days of AARP taxes, I get to rest while caring for my brother.

The title is archbishop.
The architect is Santino Solari:

There's another clue I need to figure out.

I gave up on this particular puzzle before it started. If you get itchy to play something that requires some brain work, here's a thread that may be turning into a new game: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34561148

Thanks cmt -- I'm not really such a linguist or a polyglot that I'll be able to get into that thread.
Actually the LVSue clue is not so hard once she tells us it's a castle, as I just looked through castles in Austria (there's a webpage out there some more). But I didn't have time to look for the ruler and yk's guesses seem very reasonable to me.

Clue: Depending on whom you ask, there're about 12-15 extant works by this painter (4 words: 8, 3, 4, 4), whose work is marked by a distinctive style and figures. Very few paintings can be attributed definitively to him. One painting (3 words: 3, 4, 7) is located in this museum (11 letters). Another important work is located in the (17 letters) museum.
He can be regarded as one of the founding figures of this (nationality: 5 letters) school.
Third letter of fourth word of name = "n" (from Hellbrunn).
