Small village is Gordes.
|
By the way, if you type "Gordes children resurrected" into Google, the last link is a thread from Travel Talk.
I've no clue. |
The only church I could find near Gordes is l'Abbaye Notre-Dame de Senanque, which is romanesque, but I can't find any more information that mentions a necropolis (and the #s are wrong too).
|
I'm glad that I've found another way to waste time -- I've started a blog. There's enough for me to write there. :-)
|
It's St-Pantaleon, couple k from Gordes. I actually was there when we rented a gite near Gordes, and it is mentioned in the old Michelin green tourist guide, under Gordes. The population at the time was 91.
I did not mean to make this so difficult so as not to be found; I figured if I knew of it, somebody else might have, also, what with all the Provencal-philes we have here. Somebody else take a turn. |
I didn't try very hard, as my obsession with this has waned a bit, with my other newly found pet project. I go through phases with this. :-)
So your clue could have been doable. |
I'll give one, I guess. A fun one, because if you type the right combination into Google, out comes a post I posted on this forum. Shows you how powerful these engines are.
Clue: This city (6 letters) suffered wide damage in an earthquake more than 200 years ago. The museum called (2 words: 4, 6) contains masterpieces by painter 1 (5 letters) and painter 2 (9 letters). These are multi-paneled paintings. I've used painter 1 in a previous clue. I'll make it really easy for you. First letter of city = "l." |
Is that first letter "i" or "L"? (Hard to tell if it was I or l.)
|
If it's an "L" I'll guess Lisbon for now, but I won't search for the rest until you clarify the letter.
|
Yes, Lisbon.
|
By the way, I'm bad. I think that I've only used lowercase letters for my clues. Thought about switching to upper case, but then, well, why not confuse people? :-)
I miscount once in a while too. |
So your l was an L not an i....
Lisbon is the city. The only museum I could find that fits the 4, 6 letter distribution is City Museum, but that can't be the right answer. I think you must mean this museum with a four-word name: Museu de Arte Antiga. The multi-paneled works you're thinking of must be ones by Bosch and Gonçalves. |
Yes. It's the Arte Antiga.
And yes -- the one by G. is a polyptych; the Bosch is a triptych. I think "Lisbon Arte Antiga Goncalves" in Google is the combination that will give a thread on this forum. |
Sorry, it's "Museu Arte Antiga Goncalves" that will pull up this thread:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...p;tid=34535122 cmt, don't forget to give us a clue. And Happy New Year, everyone! |
I'm off work today, so I had time to come up with a clue. It's extra long, but not as hard as it looks, since once you figure out the unnamed peson, the rest is easy to find.
Since he was nine year old, he is reputed to have been in love with (8 letters, 6th is "i" from Antiga). At a time when politics was about Black and White, he was in the (5 letters, penultimate is "t" from Arte) faction of the (6 letters, 4th is "L" from Lisbon) party. (Give these two answers in English.) He is famous throughout the world for a certain literary work, but among his other works are: a collection of poems in a style influenced by the poetry of the troubadours (includes poetry about the woman in clue #1) Three-word title (2, 4, 5 letters, penultimate is "v" from Goncalves). a sort of encyclopedia (unfinished) Two word title (2 and 8 letters, 1st letter of 2nd word is "c" from Bosch). a treatise about his native language Three-word title (2, 7, 10 letters, 4th letter of 2nd word is "g" from Antiga, and 2nd letter of last word is "L" from Lisbon) a work of political philosophy Two-word title (2, 9 letters, 2nd letter of 2nd word is "o" from Bosch) He completed his most famous work in the city of (7 letters, last is "a" from Arte), where he died and is buried. |
The person is Dante.
love for Beatrice White Guelfs De vulgari eloquentia La Vita Nuova d. Ravenna (finished Divine Comedy) I need to find some of the other works though. |
Il Convivio.
I can't find the last one though.... |
Ok, De Monarchia.
|
That was really fast!
|
Nah, not really. I should have guessed right away that it was Dante as you seem to like to use Dante in your clues. :-)
Instead I typed some random combination into Google and saw that it was Dante. |
