European beach vacation in August

Where would you recommend for a beach (or near beach) vacation in Europe during August for a couple with a 2 years old toddler? We want to go to Croatia but it looks like it's going to very crowded.

Thanks.

Madeira? Malta? and surely not every part of Croatia is crowded.

But with a two year old? I would stay on this side of the Atlantic, The Carolinas have good beaches.

Best wishes,

Rex

We're looking at Hvar, looks like Aug is going to be a mad month...

The beaches of Europe are less crowded after August 15.

most beaches in Croatia are not sandy
- could be a problem with a 2 year old.

Montenegro has some excellent beaches and could be a nice alternative to Croatia. Though it is very small you could do a side trip to Dubrovnik and I can imagine that you might not want to log too many kilometers in a rental car with a toddler.
The coastal cities of Croatia can be quite crowded (especially Dubrovnik) but I have returned to Trogir a few times (for relaxing at the seaside more than hanging out in Trogir itself) and it's not TOO bad. I would think that if you are OK with a private apartment outside of the main Croatian cities you could still have a peaceful beach vacation there.

I spent a week in Baltchik, Bulgaria with my then 12 and 2 year old kids. I had a great time being served lunch by the swimming pool and watch the kids play (and sometimes eat). I liked the variety of the menu in all the restaurants we ate, as I did not want an all-inclusive resort. We visited Albena as well and found it to be very inviting for families with kids.
