European airfares for June/July. When to buy?
I've been watching fares and they seem to have gone up in the last week. Should I wait or do I risk having all the planes sell out?<BR>I want to travel on Saturdays so I'm nervous there won't be any seats left. Still, prices seen $200-300 more than I remember last summer. Thanks.

Remember that Saturday departure and arrivals very often carry a surcharge. When seeing advertised specials for flights, they are usually Mon-Thurs days. It isn't a lot of money. It is just that I do not think you will get the rock bottom advertised price for travel on that day. Our most recent Sat. departure added about $25 to the cost of our ticket. You just have to keep checking the internet and when it is a fare you can live with, purchase. I noticed fares seem to jump after June 10 this year.

Steve, I completely agree with you. I can't find airfare from SFO to Paris in June for less than $910. And Paris is the cheapest arrival point in Europe I can find. I don't think I've ever paid more than $7-something. If anyone sees anything please post it!

I had been checking several times a day for a decent fare between Chicago and Geneva or Zurich for June 15-22 travel. The fares were anywhere between 800-1200 + tax. Then last Friday morning before I left for work, I tried on orbitz and I got a fare of $339 + tax on American Airlines. Then Delta and Continental matched it. I made a reservation but didn't pay for it, hoping I could get a non-stop on Swiss Air. Swiss Air didn't match it so I bought the American tickets. Two tickets for $339 + tax each. Short layovers and weekend travel. Next day the fare was gone. I guess you have to keep trying. I posted the fares by the way. I hope some others got lucky. I also like to see great deals posted here. Others complain, but really how hard is it to just keep scrolling?
