I unfortunately already booked my flight round trip out of London. I got a round trip deal that I couldn't pass up.

bluestar you are right, I'll have to cut 2 days out of Schengen, so fly into Berlin on 4/17, thanks for being so thorough!

Which of these trains/ferries/flights do I need to book in advance? I guess...the obvious answer is all of the them and earlier the better...so I probably should be asking which routes are flexible to book when I'm there? My friend already told me the "scene train from Milan to Prague" does NOT have to be booked in advance.

Thanks again for the all the feedback, I'm humbled by willingness of people to help me out!

Most trains in Europe need not be booked in advance though in places like France and Italy and Germany you can nab nifty discounts if you book weeks early to get the limited in number seats sold at the low rate and they can sell out quickly and are typically non-changeable nor refundable so flexibility is lost. A railpass can usually be used on any train anytime and in the many countries without seat reservation requirements you can just hop on any train anytime - and in first class, which if you are over 25 a Eurailpass must gbe - in my decades of incessant rail travel all over Europe I have rarely, rarely not seen empty seats in first class. Air fares must be booked in advance to get a low fare - even on low budget carriers - just turn up and buy say an EasyJet ticket and you could pay as much as on regular airlines.

If I fly in to Berlin from Dublin 4/17 and out of Prague to Edinburgh 7/15 it is exactly 90 days. Is that okay? Does the rule state up to 90 days or max 90 days?

I see you want to be in Amsterdam for Queen's day, but do you have any feeling for landing in London and immediately heading to another destination so you can spend continuous time in London at the end of your trip rather than splitting it in two?

The obvious candidate to me would be going directly to Greece for 2.5 weeks, and then hooking Ireland and the UK together at the end of your trip. One nice thing about putting Greece way up front like that is that Greece is really where Europe began, plus the weather is nice at that time of year.

Later, you would just proceed from Italy to Vienna. Instead of Prague to London, you could go from Prague to Dublin, and then work your way down to London for your return home.

But you might think it was just too much to spend all that time on a plane from SFO to Athens. And since you would need to book the Athens flight independently, you'd need to give yourself a sufficiently long layover to have a buffer for flight delays, etc. making that travel day even longer.

No point in starting your trip with double pneumonia, so you shouldn't do it if you think you'd regret it.

PS: You could consider picking up a useful non-Schengen day by flying into London, crashing at the Premier Travel Inn down the road, taking flight to Greece next day. In terms of sightseeing, you'd pick up the lost day later by eliminating the time you'll need to spend in travel logistics if Greece is in the middle of your trip.
