Europe Train Schedules
 

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could tell me if the Train schedules change much by season? At the moment when I check schedules for a trip we are planning in September, schedules look very limited but if I play with the dates and look at schedules now there are many more tains eg: Lucerne to Venice shows 430pm overnight train for september but in Feb it shows 430pm and 830pm?
and same for venice to florence in sept this is limited to two trains 130pm and 830pm overnight but for now or feb it is pretty much every 1hr or so.

can anybody offer advice please?

No, they do not change much at all from season to season. Sometimes there are adjustments of a few min here or there, but usually nothing major. It's likely that full schedule for Sept isn't uploaded to the websites yet.

The limited schedules you're getting may also be because of the rail site you're using. Some of the sites that sell rail passes and also give some train schedules (like Raileurope) do not have the whole train schedules. Their schedules are often incomplete.

So, if you haven't already done it, you should use each country's rail site to get the more complete schedule. Both the Swiss site and the German site give schedules across the whole continent. For your route, try the Swiss site

Generally if there are to be major schedule changes they will happen in July and again near the end of the year.

Swanday2000 has given you the best advice. I generally use the GermanRail site and as complete as it is it can have gaps but other than using a printed Cook Timetable your best bet is to do as Swan has suggested.

Thanks Heaps for the info, it would seem that timetables for September are not published in full yet. I was concerned when the site indicated only 2 trains out of venice for the day! I will check back with the timetables closer to my trip dates.
