Ive been to Capri twice but one was a day trip and the other was one night. When I write down my dreams for a class in early 2020 I imagined myself in Capri in a white dress eating gelato and by the hotel Quisiana pool. At the time that hotel was lower priced in Sept tho still pricey. Now it appears higher in the $500-600 range. I’d pay it fir a very special experience but still being depressed not sure I’d get the same joy from it. Cenobio Sri Dogli is my hotel if choice in Camogli but it too remains s extremely high for Sept.
re logistics. To get ti jfk requires 45 min drive to train station and three trains to jfk. Once at destination a train to city center and another train to destination. That’s slot of logistics. Or higher prices and three connections from my home airport.

What I like depends. In London for example it’s theatre, museums, shopping, tea, sightseeing.
But in small towns in Italy its scenery, coffee, reading by a pool, swimming, checking out little boutiques. I’m not a foodie. I like beautiful hotels and dressing up.
This is would be a more relaxing trip than a sightseeing trip.

Wengen is more about hiking boots and hiking poles than pretty white dresses

How about a combination of French culture, city life, shorelines, & Switzerland? I'm talking about the Lake Geneva area. Plenty of fancy-dress restaurants and beautiful hotels and boutiques and cafe culture, plus walks in the vineyards or gliding on lake steamers. A city like Geneva or Lausanne would be a good fit, but maybe also consider smaller Vevey (two fancy hotels on the lake) or Montreux.
If you'd like all that without the lake, consider Gstaad.
Have fun as you plan!

Thanks Swandav. I’ve been to Geneva, Montreaux snd Vevey (also Gstaad). There are certain places I haven’t been that I’d like to get too before I run out of time and/or energy.
Yeah the only place im hiking is into the five star hotel... now I don’t always choose that level of luxury. But having been on many trips the hotel now becomes part of the experience.

If you're thinking about Switzerland and grand hotels, how about Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel in Interlaken?

Fra, I didn’t stay there but did spend time in Interlaken and we walked through taking pictures. I’m looking for a remaining bucket list trip. There are of course more places I’d like to see if I have time and some on my list are very close to places I’ve been to but are still new to me.
I love the Swiss scenery and trains- not so good for shopping tho (other than high end) but I have been thru alot of Switzerland but people rave about how magical Wengen is. However I’m more sea than mountains person

With two strikes against me I hesitate to go to bat again -- but how about the Gritti Palce in Venice? (Never stayed there myself, but my parents loved it.) https://www.marriott.com/hotels/trav...-hotel-venice/

If you do end up in Camogli, I (not a shopper) would say that you will want to visit Rapallo, Santa Margherita, and Portofino for more/additional shopping choices. All easy to visit by boat, since you said you're not a hiker. LV, Missoni, Dior, Loro Piana, etc., are in Portofino, so maybe you would want to base there if that's the kind of shopping you're seeking.
As for dressing up, IME, it's beachy and at the dressed-up end of the scale, resort-y.
If you can stretch your vacation days and want to add a low-intensity city, Turin is beautiful and has good and varied shopping.

For Capri - probably not the fancy hotel experience you are looking for, but we loved the Relais Maresca

I just checked rates and they are HIGH. I'd still return (terrace room) but probably not the experience you are looking for.
