Europe maps online

Any suggestions on where to roadmaps online for Switzerland and Austria?

Try euroshell.com

When you enter the two cities you are travelling between, it gives you a map and kilometer by kilometer directions.

The website www.cwlease.com has become my standby because I had a lot of trouble with euroshell.com earlier this year. And www.mapquest.com can provide less focused (NOT route-oriented) maps that you can blow up to a level of detail not found in many atlases.

But neither is a substitute for a good atlas. One of the main points of driving while traveling in europe can be to explore here and there, and the ability to look at a map that shows you a route you weren't planning to use is invaluable.

EuroAtlas is a very good brand, as is the AAA Europe Road Atlas (sold in stores; I don't actually know if they sell them at AAA). You an also get a pretty good road map from the official tourist office(s) of practically any country - - see www.anto.com/meetanto.html for Austria; I can't find a comparable website for Switzerland though www.myswitzerland.com is supposed to be an equivalent. It doesn't seem to list the office locations outside CH (for example, NY, Chicago, Los Angeles).

If you just want a nice map to put in a scrapbook (to plot out your trip or put on a website), the maps at the University of Texas are nice:

http://www.lib.utexas.edu/Libs/PCL/M...witzerland.jpg

and

http://www.lib.utexas.edu/Libs/PCL/M...pe/Austria.GIF

Best wishes,

Rex

Euroshell.com did not respond, and so I tried the cwlease. It is superb.
