Europe Itinerary 2 months May June :)
Hi!
So, Ive got a rough idea of the places I want to visit but not really sure how to make them fit into a logical route lol. Im in Paris working so I leave from Paris So far its something like this Amsterdam 3 days (if i havent done a weekend trip there already) Hamburg 2 days Berlin 3 days Krakow 4 days Prague 4 days +Cesky Krumlov day trip Vienna 3 days +Salzburg day trip +Bratislava day trip Budapest 4 days Innsbruck 1 day (in transit) Munich 2 days +day trip to Fussen Luzern 3 days Interlaken/Grindelwald area 3 days Lausanne 3 days +Geneva Day trip Fly to Florence 1 day then train to Rome 4 days Ferry to Dubrovnik 2 days Sarajevo 1 day(in transit) Split 2 days +Trip to an Island (Hvar?) Zagreb or Rjeka 1 day (in transit) Ljubljana 2 days +Bled Day trip (better to stay in bled or Ljublijana?) Total 50-55 days Any other cities or daytrips that would fit into this route? I would like to see Scandanavia too but don't know anything about it other than the captial cities. It is possible I will do another trip in mid September, would it be better to do Scandanavia then or in Late June? I would like to see Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Latvia, Estonia So any feedback regarding how I should route it, I would like to avoid Austria during FIFA and also try and be in Croatia mid to late June so that the ferries are all running etc. I've already been to Spain, UK, Belgium and Venice so thats why they are skipped over. thanks for any input! |
Queen's Day is April 30 in Amsterdam. See you there, along with half of Holland. |
hi, rheajayde,
you might not like this, but I'm going to say it anyway - don't do it. By the time you get to Vienna you won't know where you are and you'll care less. every gallery and restuarant will merge into one horrible mess. with the luxury of 2 months, I would pick 2, or possibly 3 places as bases and rent cheap apartments there. then use them as hib for short trips, returnig "home" at the end. for example, from Paris, you could "do" that part of France - perhaps a trip up to Rouen, round normandy, then home. after a few days, you might take off to Dijon, or Avignon, or Nice - all TGV. you then might move to Vienna, and use that as a hub for trips round that area - you could do Bratislava as a day trip on teh hydrofoil, prague and CK as another short trip, Budapest as a third. thirdly, off to Switzerland, perhaps being based in Luzern. please don't SHOUT at me - i just know that I would not take in anything after a week of a trip like that. regards, ann |
I once took a 6-week trip like that. I don't remember anything about it.

How old are you (range is fine if this is an uncomfortable question), and who (if anyone) is travelling with you? This will help me give you feedback.
Also, how do you define your days? If I'm staying in a city for four nights, I assume I have three days there. |
Here is an edited more researched version :)
Alot of nightrains..Do you think that is bad? i dont need much sleep, im a bit of an insomniac lol Fly to Hamburg 2 days Train to Berlin 4 days Night train to Krakow 4 days +Extra day for Aushcwitz Night Train to Prague 4-5 days +extra day for Cesky Krumlov Night train to Budapest 4 days Train to Vienna 3 1/2 days +Extra day for Salzburg +Extra day for Bratislava Night train to Munich 1 day +Extra Day to visit the Castle Train to Luzern 2 (full) days Train to Interlaken 4(full) days Train to Lausanne 2 1/2 days Train to Geneva *short morning sightseeing before 3.30pm flight to Rome Fly to Rome 4 1/2 days Fly or Train & Ferry to Dubrovnik 3 days Bus to Split Via Sarajevo 3 days +Daytrip to an Island **which is quicker/easier/cheaper? lol. Rome to Ancona to Split to Dubrovnik OR Rome to Bari to Dubrovnik? Rjeka/Zagreb on the way to Ljubljana 2 days including Lake Bled So far that's the Finishline lol Annhig: In theory that is a great idea, I am virtually doing that now and will also be doing it in Summer. I am an aupair so I work for a few months somewhere doing weekend trips nearby then travel for a few months after i finish. The reason this doesnt work is because I plan to couchsurf a majority of the places :)This gives me more budget to work with. Thanks for your suggestion :) Notes: Reason for Visiting Munich is mainly to see the castle :) I've been to Vienna before hence the short time Not fussed whether I see florence or not. if there is a cheap flight from Geneva Ill go, if not no bother. |
Laura, Im 19 :) I realise this is an older board but everyone here was very helpful last time so i thought i'd ask again :)
The days listed are the fulldays in each place, travel is worked out separately :) hope that helps |
SO, At the moment I am a week and a half ahead so i can afford to either add a few more days to some places or Add a destination, or perhaps some other daytrips to the country that fit in anywhere.. In poland would be great and Prague, Hungary.. I dont know.
Thanks! |
rheajayde,
I think your itinerary is good. I travelled in a similar fashion at age 22 and had such a wonderful time. If you're couch surfing, I assume you will have friends in many of your destinations, which will be great. It might be nice to add a very relaxing destination about 2/3 of the way through the trip. I found that I eventually hit a wall about six weeks into the trip and needed to veg out for a couple of days without feeling guilty about "missing something." |
Yeah I thought about that, I wasnt sure where I should do it but.. I have friends just outside of Vienna that would be perfect for that actually. Vienna is about the 4th/5th week into my trip so it should fit fine. So if add 3 days "chill time" in Vienna then I still have one more week at the end of my trip I can play with.
Should I fill it up or just leave it for unexpected happenings? |
What about Greece (Athens and islands) after Sarajevo?
|
Hi!I would recommend Scandinavia! It has dramatic scenery and its something else. In Norway you can travel around and see the fjords, glacier, mountains and have fun! Norwegians are a lot of fun :)!I travelled with some friends last summer on a trip from the the capital, Oslo to western Norway! I saw a lot and got a lot of new friends as well. The company I went with is called Nordic Experience. There are cheap airline tickets to Norway to! If you want to travel cheap I would recommend staying at hostels around in Europe and Scandinavia. Here are some links for different companies:

I'd take that "extra week" at the end and sprinkle 7 days around back over the places you have already decided to visit.
|
Should I fill it up or just leave it for unexpected happenings?
I'd leave it open...you might fall in love with a place and want to spend more time there. You might hear about someplace en route that you just have to see. |
Even your edited version is 16 cities in 8 weeks. I think it's expecting a lot from yourself, even young and ft. Where is your down time? Why so few days in the sunny south?
