Europe in Winter
Hi Everyone,
I'm planning on a trip to the Middle East this winter (Israel) where i've been plenty of times before so on the way home I wanted to do a stopover in Europe. The problem is that while Israel is balmy as summer in the winter Europe can be very cold. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to stop for a few days? Not somewhere for winter sports like skiing, rather somewhere where its bearable to walk around : ) Any advice would be great-thanks! |
Rome?

rome is great, but i think i want to go somewhere besides for rome/florence/venice and paris.

Dijon maybe? :-) so many things to see. (as cold as Paris though)

What about Dublin/London/ Edinburugh/Prague? not sure where you're flying from, or who with, so not sure if these stops are possible! But you could get to them with a 1hr flight from london for not much

Anywhere in Greece?
Seville? |
Barcelona!
|
Naples (taking in the coast, Pompeii etc), Seville, Cote d'Azur, Barcelona.
|
Malta/Gozo
|
Nice.

well, we could all carry on throwing names at you, or you coud give us more of an idea of what you're interested in? You don't want one of the big 4 cities, sooo... does this mean you want countryside? (City breaks are normally the better option in winter). What part of winter? What kind of things do you like to see? History, art, good food, country walks........

What about Sicily and/or Sardinia?

hi!
thanks so much for all your suggestions. I would love to go somwehere i've never been-some major places i've never been too are Spain, the south of Italy and south of France and Greece. I'd love to eventually do spain, but probably in warmer weather and when i have a couple of weeks. as far as the rivieras-very romantic and I'm going with a friend not a boyfriend, so i'm thinking greece is a good suggestion. To answer Kate i'm a big museum person, but i love old cities in general. Greece is very close to Israel and probably fairly warm-anyone have any suggestions in Greece? |
oh! and i forgot-probably right after new year

i've been doing some more research-greece is still on my list, but now the amalfi coast looks good too....more help please! thanks everyone

Weather is always variable, and has been pretty strange this year with excessive hurricanes. But we were on Amalfi coast some years ago the week before Christmas and the weather was perfect. Quite comfortable to walk around without a sweater or jacket in the daytime -light jacket at night.
Also beautiful, not crowded off season, and we found people to be very nice. We stayed in Atrani, which is a tiny town within walking distance from Amalfi. Had a nice room with kitchenette, balcony overlooking the town square. Very quiet and relaxing, but that may not be what you want. We walked to Amalfi to eat, shop. |
