I agree that we don't want separate countries and be like frommers. I go there only when i am planning a trip to a specific place - and even then i find it tedious. I look at Fodor's almost every day and as many have said, I give answers many times more than i ask - i bet it would work out to 100 answwers given for each one asked.
Keep it the same!

Hello everybody. This is a nice roundtable discussion.
This topic does come up often in our discussions here at Fodor's. The Europe forum is definitely the busiest.
We essentially have mini-forums; users may select multiple countries to file their threads under. So if you do have a trip report that ventures to Paris, Madrid, and London, you may select France, Spain, and the UK all at once when you post. That way, when a poster clicks on Spain or France from the pull-down menu, your post will automatically pop up in the results for both areas.
We do recognize that the search does not always work as it should. We appreciate those of you who have stuck with the site over the years (that's a nod to you Robespierre)-- your suggestions have helped us shape where to take Fodor's next.
You might find searching long threads easier by running a text search. For instance, you could run a search on our site for a restaurant you'd like to go to in Paris. Our site might retrieve several lengthy trip reports that each mention this restaurant somewhere. If you open a thread and do a text search by pressing ctrl+F you'll find it more quickly.
Obviously, future improvements to the site will hopefully make this extra step completely uneccesary. But that is just a suggestion for folks that are eager to find something super specific in a sea of posts on popular spots.
Happy Monday!
