Europe for 10days...

I'm going to Malta over the Christmas holidays...and my husband and I would like to stop somewhere a long the way for maybe 2 days. Is this realistic? I know it's short, but is 2 full days feasible? I'm thinking London or Frankfurt....
Anyone have any other suggestions? Perhaps another city that we can spend a few days in? I don't want to do Paris or Rome in only 2 days...I would hate to rush...
Thanks!

I stopped in London for a night on many occasions enroute to business in the Middle East. Tried to arrive very early (6:30) one day and depart early afternoon the next day.

So two nights, IMHO, would be worth the hassle of gooing to and from the airport. I'm sure others will disagree with me on this point and advise you to continue on to Malta.

Just be sure to know what you want to do in London and have to get about so you maximize your limited time there.

AllyPally, would you mind sharing your shopping expertise and listing some of your favorite department stores, shops and streets? Primarily interested in gifts, food, homewares, books/maps, dishes. Not sure there are any screaming bargains or "good deal" in London, but its always fun to look.

One thing to consider is the packing. You'd need all different clothes for London than for Malta. What about a two day stop in Sicily (Palermo) for easy connections to Malta. Or a stop in Madrid or Barcelona if possible?

And frankly any time of year, I think Frankfurt would be at the bottom of my list for a stopover of more than an hour or two out of necessity.
