Europe Day-May9
I was wondering if Europeans have a lot of celebrations on May 9, Europe day? Are there parades and fire works like other national holidays?
No parades or fireworks, those are for national holidays.
Eh, not national holidays. I meant national days, independence days and so on.
I was over in Spain last year for Euro day and it wasn't really celebrated.
I have never heard of Europe Day. but V-E day also called Liberation day (is it May 8? May 5?) does have a big glorious parade down the Champs Elysees. Or it did in years past.

Best wishes,

Rex
There are big celebrations around my home, but that's because it's my birthday!

We were in Germany on May 9 and didn't notice any difference compared to any other day.
why ask about this, over 10 months in advance?
I have never heard of "Europe Day"?
British! Me neither...
May 9 (Thursday) was a holiday in Germany and many other countries here...it was Christi Himmelfahrt, Ascension Day, a religious holiday. Never heard of Europe Day...maybe it was not noticed in the rush for the long holiday weekend !!

Judy in Germany

True, May 9th is Ascension Day also in Finland. A religious holiday and not a work day. It may also be Europe Day, but the reason why it is "a day off" is religious. Few years back they pushed it to Saturday for not to miss a day at work, but then somebody realized that it is a bit too materialistic to say that Christ went to heaven on Saturday instead of Thursday so that he doesn´t disturb working people.
