Europe Airfare for October 2007
 

Does a flight to Munich from NYC in mid-October for $540 see right? I have been spoiled in paying around $350 r/t the last few times I've flown to Europe (in the last year and a half), so I am not sure if this is a standard, good, or poor fare. I have been vigourously watching flights on all travel sites, (and to various European cities), and this seems good in comparison to what else I see.

I also should point out that we will then need to fly to Nice one way, and then out of Athens one way (start and end of a cruise). It seems like there are really cheap flights from Munich to Nice (I found a $40 one) but Athens is another story (mid $100s). Does this munich r/t make sense taking that into consideration?

I know it's far away, but from my experience with airfare (mostly domestic) in the past year, it seems like "higher" prices are the norm. I am nervous to hold out for rock bottom prices in case they never come out...

I think your days of $350 R/T to Europe fares might be over for a while.

Thanks. I found it on a few search engines and also double checked it on the actual airline sites (United outbound, Lufthansa inbound).

That's what I thought out the cheap Europe flights too, but I just feel like I need others to confirm it!

we tried to book ORD-Venice and were getting quotes on virtually all websites of over $700 roundtrip for October. $540 sounds like a deal to me.

A lot depends on what airline? and where their HUBS are !

Air fares are going up, I understand...
Also, October, you would think, would be getting in to shoulder season or low season,,,but more and more Oct. seems to be a popular and often prime travel time.

If oil prices keep dropping, then air prices should drop. If oil prices rise, so should air prices. Unless other factors intervene.

Does that clear it up? Heh, heh.

Why would ticket prices drop if the company knows there is consistent <b>demand</b> regardless of oil prices?

I was going to suggest cross-checking on an aggregator site such as itasoftware.com and a consolidator such as onetravel.com but that may be pointless if you've already looked at both types of sites.

After weeks of checking prices for our Oct. 2006 Newark, NJ to Munich trip, leaving Oct. 15 and returning Oct. 30, the best we found (and booked in early Sept.) was $544 per person r/t.
Airline was Lufthansa. Sounds like a good deal.
Oh, we used www.travelocity.com to book the flights.

Thank you all for your advice/info. I went ahead and booked it on Luftansa for $500. Seemed too good to pass up!

Prices would drop to fill the seats--most airplanes do not take off 100% full.
