Eurolines Experience?
 

Hi everybody,

I am looking at taking a Eurolines bus from Berlin to Prague with a stopover in Dresden. DeutscheBahn prices for the same trip are 117 Euro; Eurolines prices are 21 Euro.

Just wanted to see if anybody had any experience with Eurolines; is it worth it to save the extra 100 Euro? I've heard the train ride between Berlin and Prague is especially nice, and would hesitate to miss that on the bus, but that 100 Euro would sure be nice to save.

The other option would be to take a 9 Euro Eurolines bus from Berlin to Dresden, and a 57 Euro DeutscheBahn train from Dresden to Prague, if the view is that wonderful.

If you book ahead the train is only 39 euro. I would take the train over the bus every time, although not for an extra 100 euro.

YOu mean the view from Dresden to Prague? I don't remember it as being wonderful, although it was fine. I"ve never heard that the train from Berlin to Prague is especially wonderful for views, seems about the same as most train lines, not wonderful, not terrible. There are a few great scenic trains I've taken in Switzerland and Austria, but I don't remember that run as being particular outstanding. I only went from Prague to Dresden and then from there to Gorlitz, not Berlin, though but I was on the part you have heard was especially scenic. I wouldn't take the train for that reason, but because you wanted to otherwise. I think there are some more scenic train runs in Germany in the Black Forest or along the Rhine.

Euroline buses as buses in general are nice enough but IME as opposed to train just not as comfy - harder to get up and just walk around or go to the cafe car, etc. - get a deep discounted ticket and like others say the train fare will not be much more. Or maybe as annavontrapp says Eurolines for 9 euro to Dresden then 39 euro train to Prague that thursdayds points to.

See if the bus tracks down the gorgeous Saxon Switzerland river valaley along the Elbe - if not the train does and then it will be much more scenic - one of the most scenic train lines in Europe IMO.

Make sure the bus does not charge for large luggage stowed under the bus - trains do not.

Spend money to save time! Berlin to Prague by train is 4.5 hours. It's probably at least 10 hours by bus.

That's BERLIN to Prague, not Dresden. Planning ahead saves real money.

Why would Berlin to Prague cost more than Dresden to Prague?

We were miscalculating the train ticket total...lost my mind there for a few minutes!!

sit on the east side of the train when going down Saxon Switzerland valley (left side) for the best views -most all of the neat styuff is to the east of the train line.
